How effective is putting Grav Cannons into drop pod units, such as Tactical squads or Devastators?
I'm hoping to spread out the firepower of something like a Devturion squad and put that into multiple units for redundancy.

With skyhammer, it's very effective, and even without it you're still getting 3 shots/dev at 12". I've had some success with 3-man grav cents with a buffing character in a fast attack pod as well.

Well, generally I don't like grav weapon on a non relentless platform. But now Droppod Grav marine... En... should be ok if you just treat it as a 3 shot plasma gun on the drop. It is hard to say wether it worth that additional 20pts. If your grav cannon wielder survived to the second turn. Then you got to unleash the full fury. A 10men TAC with a plasma gun and a grav cannon in droppod should be somehow nasty. As you will amost sure getting in 12inch range.

I would only put Grav on a Rhino Tac squad, not a Drop Pod one. Half range, less shots, and you aren't going to delete your target like Grav Cents in a Pod is going to do. The survivors will charge you and you're not going to get a second chance except in Overwatch. You're stuck in the open with a 35pt wet noodle compared to what it COULD be.
Skyhammer is obviously the exception. Relentless and Slow and Purposeful is king.

The 12" salvo range can be mitigated by dropping close to your enemy, and you still get 60% of the firepower. Obviously you would rather stand still with a grav cannon, but it works reasonably well on the move (especially compared to a regular grav gun, who's 9" salvo range is prohibitively short). You will do more damage with that grav cannon than you could with the 2.5 extra marines you could afford in it's place.

I was originally thinking of plasma gun & grav cannon for a five man Crusader squads in a pod. One such squad won't kill a big target but pairing them up should.

I once had put a five men Dev Squad with 2 Grav cannon in a rhino in the Demi-Company formation. I drove the Rhino full speed to the nearest mid-field objective and parked it there for the whole game. It became very frustrating for my Nids opponent. As the 2 Grav cannon is eating his MCs whenever they entered the "no in zone" and the Mawloc, while usually excellent in dealing Grav Cents, had a hard time to bust the AV11 when coming in. It had to causes his Flyrants and DakkaFex to crack open this bunker. While the Grav cannon men fallen out can still fire 5 shots when come to my shooting phase....

It's entirely worth it. It almost makes Tactical Marines worth taking, as they have a Heavy Weapon they can use on the move.

Good point, even with the reduced range and # of shots, it's still an effective weapon against high value targets.

Definitely seems like a good way to add some punch to a Gladius Battle Company. Plasma gun and Grav Cannon in a rhino makes for a pretty nasty gun boat. Automatically Appended Next Post: Do you still have to run 10 Tacs to get a heavy wep?
