Just wondering if anyone had tried this particular case for an inexpensive DIY option for larger models/vehicles?

Thansk in advance

Yes, I have four of them and they're fantastic. It would be far too fiddly to try and cut individual slots for infantry-sized models, but I currently have one that I custom cut to carry my Storm Raven with slots made for 2 Rhinos and a dreadnought. Another case I use to transport 5 Immolators, 2 Exorcists, and 2 Penitent Engines. The third case is exclusively used to carry a resin FW Baneblade.

If I'm carrying multiple cases, I have a small, collapsible handcart that I can stack and bungee the cases to for ease of movement to and from the FLGS.

How much are they? Where can I pick them up?

I feel that this would be perfect for me. How would it fit a valkrie?

I read about them being at wallmart for like $12 or something stupid like that... Here in Australia same case is $40+... That's what we get for gun control :-P

Yep, gun cases work pretty good. They and tackle boxes were the common choice before various companies popped up offering "army transports".

I used large pistol cases for some, and rifle cases for others.

Walmart was selling Plano cases that were very similar to this model for $11.97. However, they either discontinied the model or Walmarts in my area simply stopped carrying them. I'll double-check my model # and post that info tomorrow. But the ones I have can definitely fit a Valkyrie with room to spare.

On a side note how would infantry fair being placed between the egg carton foam? I was thinking a small rifle case would still be a reasonable option...

I use one to transport my Menoth army like that: I don't take any of the foam inserts out and I place the models between the eggcrate sections. There's enough pressure when you close the case to hold the models in place, but not so much that it breaks arms or weapons. For the record, my Menoth army is almost entirely multi-part metal, including Temple Flameguard (spears) and Knights Exemplar (swords), and I've never had to repair anything out of the case.

Plano Model#1404-02

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A quick web search shows this model as being sold out on Walmart.com, but they're still available on Amazon for around $25. Twice as much as it used to retail for, but I still think it's a great value. It's also worth noting that the cases have exceptional user ratings and reviews. That's pretty rare on retail sites where most people only give feedback to complain

I move my entire horus heresy army in 2 of them. Admittedly, I'm still working on my 2nd to make it better fit Mortarion, Typhon, a land raider, and 2 drop pods. For infantry, I did no conversion, they fit fine in the egg carton foam, and the pluck foam in the bottom is amazing for terminator, dreadnoughts, rhinoes, and more fragile infantry.

EDIT: just check local walmarts, they almost always have 2 on hand, and for 12 bucks a pop.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
