This is something that I've grown to like in other games, but I'd like to see brought into 40k. Instead of rolling for initiative at the beginning of the game, you would roll at the beginning of every game turn. I think this adds a more tactical level to the game. It also means going first and alpha striking someone is not as big when in the next turn you lose the initiative and get alpha strike back.

Just some food for thought.

So what happens though when someone gets to go last and then 1st on the next turn? no chance to stop the assault, no chance to counter anything done in the last turn. good thought though.

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all

I like it, may actually help assault based armies a bit because when they move out of cover to close the distance, they have a 50/50 chance to get the charge without being blown away next turn. Also makes deep strike, infiltrate, out flank, and scout more of an issue for the same reason...

Actually, I would consider it the same mechanic as sieze the initiative. So anyone with a warlord trait etc to give a bonus to the roll would get said bonus for this as well.

May have to give this a go in my next game.
