What kind of squads work the best to support him?
Crusader squads benefit the most from Fearless and can provide cheap bodies to shield him until he gets into a challenge.
Honor Guard allow you to choose who has to challenge, Emp Champ or Chapter Champ.
Vanguard (walking) can provide 3++ saves and massed thunder hammers for concussive.

Honor Guard is awesome, and does indeed let you get around his challenge rule. But sometimes it feels a little overkill. Although having the banner in the Honor Guard also gives him another attack, which can be pretty amazing.
Last time I ran him, I put him in a LRC with honor guard and a chaplain.
Rerolled all failed to hits on the charge and got an extra attack from the banner. It proved to be very effective, but was also a big chunk of points that was limited to one section of the field for battle.

hum this is a very hard question.
Personally i like him with a crusader squad, and have them go for troops and light infantry.
the Honor Guard squad is well worth its points, and as Icculus said that extra attack can really be impressive on him.
i have tossed him in a termy squad with a chaplain in a LRC, but that amount of points spent is a lil much
i have actually put him alone in a LRC with actually good effect.
its reallyup to you but he does well in most squads, just remember he wants to slice things up and sometimes that not a good thing for his squad.

You know what also works kind of well and is a lot cheaper is putting the honor guard unit with the EC in a drop pod instead of a LRC.
The honor guard all still have bolters, so you can still unload bolter fire when you land. But they will be vulnerable to shooting and being charged. Although if they shoot you before they charge you get Rage and Counter-attack, so hey, let them do it.
But if you have a crusader squad in a LRC coming up the field, this drop pod may take some pressure off of that unit.

I was originally thinking of the HG but I'm wondering if that's too many eggs in a single basket.

It really depends what you're dealing with, if the enemy have any other melee deathstars or wraithknights etc then it's got to be an honour guard, but if it's more of a gunline or msu army then crusader squad is the way to go

They can.
You actually have to spend points to give them jump packs. They aren't free.
What they do have over HG though is the ability to take a 3++ and either mass fists or hammers, so they are better at MC hunting.

I would say either a unit of honour guard or a big crusader squad

I usually roll him up in a Crusader Squad with a few extra Neophytes fro cannon fodder. Look for high-value units with T5 or less and are lacking invulnerable saves - The weight of attacks from the Crusaders will do a lot of damage, and the EC can slaughter at will.
It's surprising how many people just aren't prepared to be assaulted by 16 pissed off marines and a Land Raider.

Do you think EC & HG is enough to handle something like TWC?

I don't know anything about TWC, but the 2+ saves, additional attacks, and built-in power weapons are a good deal at 25 ppm. If you're gonna do it, go all the way and take 10 in a LR Crusader.
