Why would you replace a space marine bikers bolt pistol for a chainsword? As far as I can se it does nothing for you, am I missing something?

It's been pointless since second edition, but each bike squadron set has included a guy waving a sword around, and so it was left in the options so that the models would fit their rules.

I don't see anything in the Bike Squad datasheet in the current Codex Space Marines which requires the exchange of a chainsword.

I don't see anything in the Bike Squad datasheet in the current Codex Space Marines which requires the exchange of a chainsword.
The special weapons list requires you to replace a Boltgun or Chainsword to take items from it.
