Subject: Are Black Orcs on their way out of the setting?

I realise that the name will change if they stay in but I was more meaning the models.
I've always liked the look of the Black Orcs but never played Fantasy. Not sure if this would be a good time to purchase some just in case GW decides to squat them.
I'm not sure how old the plastic Black Orc box is, much older than the Dryads or around the same? I know the Plague Monks are at least as old if not older.
The reason why I'm posting this is because I can't really find any pictures of Orcs/Orruks from the new books online and some of the artwork seems like they are going down the more "savage" route.
Appreciate any information.

I doubt any plastic models will be discontinued.
Having said that, anything in finecast or metal will prob get new models or binned.

I don't think Black Orcs will be dropped, and I'm pretty sure the kit is only as old as the Skaven Clanrat / Stormvermin kits (Plague Monks are older I'm quite sure)

There's a PIC in one of the books with Stormcast apparently fighting black orcs.

I don't know about that. I think the ork models are probably safe for now, but none of the elves, dwarves, or humans have been shown in any of the campaign books.
For the elves I think it makes sense because they are supposed to be missing outside of Azyrheim.
The only non-Stormcast humans we've seen are members of the Cult of Sigmar such as fanatics and war altars, which makes sense because they'd be the things most likely to remain after the change from the old world. However a large portion of the old Empire plastic range have gone direct only, such as steamtanks, pistoliers/outriders, Reiksguard knights, free company, huntsmen, etc. The only things left in store are the very very core choices such as state troops which suggests to me that large changes are coming.
Similarly for the dwarfs most of the remaining kits are the new plastic ones which seem to match the described "Steamhead Duardin" while older plastic kits like the miners and thunderers/quarrelers are also webstore exclusive.

I think which old plastics are being repackaged and which are going to die out is purely based on sales and stock remaining.

it is interesting. I had made a thread about this a little while ago - how the models missing in the the AoS books (Orcs, Dwarfs, Elves, etc) are a reflection of GW's future release plans (new models of those races? phasing some out of the fluff/rules completely? etc).
But you are right about the art, they are more savage, and I think I had read a rumor or something that stated Orcs will take a more savage look. Possibly meaning no more heavily armored/slightly more coherent ones...

I think Orruks will have big heavily armored guys still, but they'll likely be massive and on 40mm bases and come in boxes of 5.
There's artwork of the Fyre Slayers in the big AoS book and they just look like regular slayers.
It's elves and humans that will get the biggest changes imo

I don't see many orruc stuff being discontinued. The orrucs have a lot of keywords. I would say whdn they get round to orrucs in a similar way to sylvaneth, nurgle, khorne, clan pestilence a lot of orruc stuff will be separated into individual forces to suit their keyword.
If you have a look at the black orc warscroll it specifies black orc or some such. Id say they will be expanded upon and separated out like the chaos/ wood aelfs

I don't think the current range of orcs are large enough when you look at the sigmarites and khorne guys. Have there been any scale pics with orruks and the new stuff?

Thanks for the replies, I might hang fire after all.
While looking for Orc pics I stumbled across this. I noticed the guy with the banner has a Chaos Knight sword arm and his Juggernaut has a crest that I don't think is presentin either of the plastic juggernaut variations.
With the "No Longer Available" status of the Juggernaut Lord I'm wondering the the Skullcrushers will get an extra sprue that enables you to make a Lord or whether this is just a kitbash.
Either way I think I might just throw my lot in with Chaos until the Orc situation becomes a little more clear.

To be fair only the stormcast are bigger. Khorne guys have slight out of proportion scale but its not all that different. A lot of the scale "creep" is due to the use of 32mm rounds.
The old orc kits are small anyway, the newer savage orc plastics are about right if you look at them on 32mm rounds. I would hope that the basic orc kit gets a full reboot as its very old skool fantasy and doesn't really fit AoS which is why I'm guessing gw are limiting what orc stuff has been shown as them the aelfs and human factions and dwarfs to a degree haven't been shown at all or on a very small scale (not inc goblins, who I doubt will change at all, though likely will be added onto)

That's a kit-bash. The Standard is just the one from the 'Crushers kit and it's been modified slightly to look like its attached to the Juggernaut instead of him holding it.
Other than that the only real kit-bash is the sword which has been taken from the Chaos Knights kit. The Chaos Warrior plastic kits actually have tons of opportunities for simple kit-bashes like this.

GW are playing a strange game with the re-releases:
Plague-monks look fine ranked up, but on round bases they look dreadful. I was excited at seeing reboxed Stormvermin instead.
As for Black Orcs, I think the direction GW are going with Orcs is Savage.
