Subject: When did Horus's legion change color.

If I recall correctly he has a red suit of armor, white with gold trim armor, sea green, and a black with gold trim armor. As for the legion I don't recall them changing their colors until Horus died in which they changed the name and their armor to black to symbolize their failure to stop the false emperor and to mourn Horus who almost all of them were deeply loyal too. Forgeworld lately has been painting them green and black even before Horus's death. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Sons-of-Horus-Legion-Command http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Abaddon-and-Loken So my question is this a mistake or did they change a time before that I missed? Abaddon would not have changed to black yet and I have never heard of green for the sons of horus I assumed they remained white from the luna wolves. I assumed that they all looked like this http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/7/74/SoH_Auretian_Technocracy.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120917070356 and before that as luna wolves like this http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/1/17/Luna_Wolves_Legion_combat.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120910165825

It was after Ullanor, they changed from white to green to honour Horus's appointment as the warmaster.
The Horus heresy novels detail this.

I recall the horus heresy novels but I recall horus turning down having the legion renamed the sons of horus until after his fall to chaos. Which I am aware was not too far off, but there is still a time gap. Also illustrations from Collected Visions show them to be a white/grey color as sons of horus http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=116929&d=1314472946 Although I don't remember if this book is a good source of information so it may be sea green.

Actually in the new novel series it is before his fall to chaos (and sanguinius encourages him to do so.) The renaming happened at the same time as the colour change.
I wouldn't hold collected visions as a source of canon (although its easy to come up with reasons some squads would have different colouring)

You said it before I did I was wondering if it was still considered cannon or not. I much prefer the green or white look to that weird grey color anyway. Thanks for your help buddy. I just could not remember for the life of me when they started wearing green. Thanks again. Although I really do like that mark 2 power armor in grey and gold http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/349213HorusRisingbyNeilRoberts.jpg Although I have a thing for all mark 2 power armor especially this one http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140916070031/warhammer40k/images/4/42/DG_Legionary_Mk_III_Mod_Pack.jpg

I believe they changed the name to Sons of Horus after his promotion to Warmaster. Not from his fall to chaos.
Ahh yes, here is the lexicanum entry
Increasingly concerned, however, with a belief that some of the other Primarchs and their Legions did not show him and his Wolves enough honour in their roles as the Warmaster and his personal Legion, Horus, at the suggestion of Sanguinius[3b], eventually took up the offer made to him by the Emperor to change the name and iconography of Legion XVI. Shortly after the Interex campaign the Luna Wolves became the Sons of Horus.

It was, of course, very soon after that the chaos influence started.
prior to this, "Son of Horus" had been a term used to refer to any member of the legion who bore a resemblance to Horus. These individuals often rose in the ranks quickly. Abaddon was one of them, earning his nickname "Little Horus".

Nope, Abaddon wasn't a 'son of Horus' in that sense, or called 'Little Horus', that's Horus Aximand, another of the Mournival. The rest is good though.
But yeah, the fist company (the Justaerin and the Catulan Reavers) wore black armour even then when the rest wore green.

They changed to the green and Sons of Horus title after the Interex. Sanguinius had suggested it after Murder as a sort of show of force to the other legions, specifically the Emperor's Children. Horus was Warmaster, so calling his legion the Sons of Horus told the other legions that they carried his authority.

I believe he was, if I recall correctly there was a passage in the first Heresy novel that said Loken was the first non-Son to join the Mournival or something to that effect.
Setting that aside, people have gone so far as to call him a clone of Horus.

Maybe yeah, I wasn't 100% sure about him not being a 'son', I just couldn't remember him being referred to as one. I don't have my books either. Sorry Grey Templar, seems you were right about that part

Abaddon is considered a 'son of Horus', there used to be talk about how he might have actually been a Horus clone. Seems like that's been retconned now. He's definitely not Little Horus though.
They changed from white to green after the Interex campaign but the name change was offered after Ullanor. They went from green to black around M32.

The newish Talon Of Horus novel revives the rumour that abaddon is Horus clone son. (And iIRc how ridiculous abaddon finds that rumour)
It sets the stage for the founding of the black legion, but doesn't actually get there.
One thing that's made clear is that the black legion aren't just rebranded sons of horus. They are a new legion, which will take on anyone as members.

Codex Supplement Black Legion also mentions the rumour of Abbaddon being Horus's clone.
It's an in universe conspiracy theory, not a fact.

-The Justaerin Terminators and Reaver Attack Squads always wore black
-They were originally known as the Luna Wolves, where they wore white
-They were either changed to the Sons Of Horus and gained the green colour scheme either when Horus was named warmaster after the Ullanor Crusade or after Horus was corrupted on Davin (depending on which source)
-After Abaddon prevented Fabius Bile from cloning Horus, they were again renamed, this time as the Black Legion and gained the black colour scheme they have today

In Talon of Horus it's pretty clear that there's a decent amount of time between destroying the clones and taking the black.

With the exception of your post practically everyone has addressed the topic in addition to answering supplementary questions.
