This is a continuation of my previous thread:

According to the canon, Fatidicus was the main reason the Imperium believed in the Emperor's ascension and continued to worship him after the Horus Heresy.

This brings forth an interesting question: What was Fatidicus relationship with the authorities?

The Emperor's troops had been schooled in the "Imperial Truth". The surviving bureaucrats must have been wary of Fatidicus' power. Fatidicus was a man outside the Space Marines/Custodes hierarchy.

We know that they eventually incorporated his ideas, but I wonder what their relationship with him was like at first?

He probably turned up with an army of the Faithful and said: "Look, your planet's kind of falling apart here... I can fix it for you. Low, low price of a place on the council."

While the Emperor walked around on Terra, there were billions of people already venerating him, many of which would have been found at all levels of power, right there on Earth. He never did anything to stop them. We can basically discard the arch-atheism of the Emperor with a Bible quote that better-describes the Emperor's beliefs:

"Thou shalt not have any other God before me."

It's a pretty easy transition to find that here's a guy to serve as a figurehead for the beliefs already common to a *lot* of people around here, which rallies them together in the wake of this cataclysmic event.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

The "authorities" were the various ranks of people on Terra. A good number of them were already members of the Temple of the Saviour Emperor. Fatidicus himself was a commander of the Imperial Army and had taken part in the Siege of Terra, defending the world itself from the advance of the traitors. When he started preaching, the Imperial Army and Navy rather quickly joined the ranks.

So here you have a recognized war hero, a charismatic preacher, backed by millions-strong military assets. Your home planet, that this guy defends, had just been rekt. Are you going to say "no"?

Welcome to dystopia?

He's the founder of the Ecclesiarchy, the glue that holds the Imperium together. He is a dude that did what needed to be done in the wake of a cataclysmic event that would have otherwise shattered Mankind.

You mean like the High Lords of Terra, who were placed in power by the Emperor, Himself? The Inqusition, founded at His command? The Navis Nobilite, that predate the Imperium? The AdMech that does so as well?

Of all the things that changed after the Emperor's ascension, the governing body of the Imperium isn't really one of them, not to the degree you seem to be implying.

Oh, yes, the four surviving High Lords of Terra, who decided to keep the Emperor on the throne instead or reviving him? Or perhaps the handful of surviving loyal Mechanicus adepts who had to rebuild the entire Adeptus from scratch?
