So I was just reading some Rogue Trader fluff and apparently the Ultramarines Chapter is of third founding using the name, heraldry and paraphernalia of the traitor legion.

Fallen/Chaos Ultramarines sound very cool to me and a spiky Calgar-counts-as-Abaddon or something different really appeals to me.

What are your thoughts??

EDIT: I KNOW RT WAS RETCONNED DONT CRY.

I don't see why not, I'm sure there's been some UM that have fallen over 10,000 years.

For some reason I read the title as Ultra Chaosmarines, which sounds pretty cool to me.

All of the Legions had traitor units on both sides that disagreed or got caught on the wrong side of the lines. Traitor Ultramorons aren't out of the question. Legionnaires back in the day seemed quite a bit more free thinking than the marines of 40k. The fluff that I have read in 30k era doesn't mention much I can think of in the way of brain wiping like current marines get nor was there the whole religious aspect they currently have, in fact the idea of it was revolting to the legion marines.

Traitor Ultramarines that didn't get folded into one of the actual legions and kept some sense of their original identity would be cool to see.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

My reading of: "Along with the number, the new chapter recieved the gene-sperm, implant zygotes, rituals and other paraphenalia of indoctrination previously entrusted to the banished 13th legion." is that they *didn't* get the same name, just the number, in the same way that the Mentor Legion were given the number of the defunct Star Scorpions.

Well, Alpha Legion disguised as Ultras has always been one of my favorite things:

But there's no reason why a few Ultras wouldn't have fallen. It happens to the best of em.
