Ok , so I'm pretty new here but after looking at my broadsides and my piranhas I had a really cool idea for a custom tau unit. I want to use this custom unit at my gaming group but it might need some tinkering so here it is.

Armourhead tank-hunter.............................75 points
[front] [side] [rear] [BS]
11 11 10 3

Wargear:
Twin-linked heavy rail rifle
Markerlight analyser relay
Sonic jets

Options;
May include 2 more Armourheads...............75 pts/model
May take up to 2 seeker missiles....................8 pts each
Any armourhead may take items from the vehicle battle systems list.

Sonic jets ;
any model with sonic jets can fire snapshots after flatting out but with only one weapon

As you can see this is basically what I think piranhas should be remember they are supposed to be fast light tank hunters helpful comments/advice would be nice.

Why would you use a heavy rail rifle when you could use a fusion blaster, especially for tank hunting?

I simply cannot decide whether this unit would be bad or stupidly broken.

Vehicles means immune to Str4 and greatly enhanced durability vs a great deal of other things. Disruption pods on these and they'll probably survive.

Networked markerlights make this unit seem stupid cheap because they're basicly BS5 with 3 networked markerlights.

I imagine they're going to be skimmers meaning they'll be nigh incapturable since they can go 18" a turn and still snap-shot one of their weapons. And if you have a unit of Pathfinders nearby, you can boost their BS back up anyway.

the only reason I'm still on the fence is because the Heavy rail rifle is not considered to be a good gun. But honestly they're on a unit that's both more durable, agile and cheaper than a Broadside. In the end I think they're too strong for their points.

Don't know what I'd price them at tough.

Ok ,thanks to some of your comments and me talking to my friends I have taken away the networked markerlights (thanks DaPino for your comment I didn't really think about pathfinders) instead I made up some new things.

Markerlight analyzer relay;
any unit with a markerlight analyzer relay can give their weapon the armourbane special rule if they used 3 or more markerlights

I now see this unit being used in combo with pathfinders to make really efficient tanks hunters.Please leave more helpful comments.

Hmm Neet idea though a few thoughts

1) Sonic jet rule it self doesn't sound right for what it does name wise
maybe advanced targeting or something.

2) Rail weapons have always been about range over getting close. seems strange to put it on a chassis that appears to want to get close to do its job.

Ether name the weapon a melta as it makes sense for the close range. or something different like Rapid Rail Guns or something. maybe multiple low ST shots at ap1. (would mesh well with your super sonic rule)

edit: also arent phirana chasses av10 all around? why change it.

I think this unit is OK, maybe a little underpriced (it would be better at 65-70 points).

I guess this unit wants to stay afar like a Hammerhead (hence the name).

They have Front Armor 11.

Ah. but still 11.11.10 is better than the piranha chassis.

if it wants to stay away it might as well stay on a hammer head chassis which is more stable anyway.

why use a fast piranha chassis if you intend on staying in the back ya know?
