Yeah - Invade can bog down in the middle with large armies.

Hordes are wonderful, wonderful things - but when they get stuck... that is a lot of points tied up, and in an Invade, that can be a unit that doesn't make it to the other side. (Worst KoW 2 battle that I have ever played was Invade with a pair of bridges on a river that crossed the board diagonally down the long way My wraiths made it across, which won the game - but every other unit in the game was stuck at those danged bridges. The dwarfs had no flyers at all. A realistic battle, but not fun. Neither dwarfs nor undead are great swimmers....)

That was pretty much the only KoW game that I have played where I didn't have fun. (Winning because a flyer could cross the river... does not a victory make.)

*EDIT* In regards to the undead catapults - I generally find it more useful to have a battery of two, and do not bother taking just one. It is just too frustrating when you can't hit a durn thing in several turns of fire. Having two or three firing together just feels like it accomplishes something. (And can be used quite nicely as bait in a trap....)

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.
