So I am just getting into W40k, I haven't really done much miniature painting in the past other than a few Orks that I painted. I used ground coffee for the basing material, not sure how it is supposed to stay on there though(Any Help?). Here is my attempt at an Ultramarine dreadnought! Not bad for a fifteen year old!

Nice job

Looks like a dread that's seen some action and has the battle damage to prove it.

Regarding the base, generally you'd use plain ol white PVA glue for keeping the material on the base. For basing like this after the model is painted, usually you'd do a layer of PVA on the base, sprinkle the basing material on, leave it to dry, and then put a layer of watered down PVA over the top of it all to seal it in. If its watered down enough, then it'll form a nice protective layer over the base and not obscure much of the texture. You could then apply a wash for some shading, or a bit of dry brushing for some highlights.

Hope that helps!

Definitely good work for your first mini!

A simple tip that I can give is pick up a pot each of Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade (both are GW Washes) and use them on the steel and gold areas respectively. It'll really finish off the metallic effect and take this to the next level!

First attempt? You lie.
Tips time! Wash up the metals with agrax if you want a smexy oily look. The base looks kinda dull, some peices of rock should fix that, as well as painting it up (cant tell if the base is painted). You may want to drill the gun barrels, especially on a model with guns that big.

Very nice. Really like the battle damage.

It looks great! A million times better than my first model. I would recommend buying some 'Mordheim Turf' static grass to stick on your bases. Really easy to put on, it's just like a sticker.

A bit of Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil as others have said will help dirty up those metals for you two. I would even run a little bit of Agrax Earthshade over the sarcophagus to help the skull and the wings pop.

Great stuff.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)
