Couldn't find the AoS app thread, lock if inappropriate.

this update text is from the GW New Zeeland page, meaning it's legit, and i found the other two on FB. This is great news and it means you no longer have to purchase huge, expensive books if all you want are the rules! There are also rumors that they are working on some way to unlock these in the app if you have the physical books.

This is awesome! I'll probably buy all the scenarios if they are small micro transactions. Great move by GW!

And let's hope the 'rules' button on the app finally works :-p

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

They already fixed that at least on iPad and iPhone.

Hmm the rules tab doesn't work on my iPad still. I'll try reinstalling.

Edit - it's because I don't have iOS 8.3 yet. Break my emulators to get the AoS app working..... Dilemma!

So the update for iOS hasn't rolled out yet (in the UK at least), but all this stuff is now available on the Android version

So... I'm out of the loop here a bit but are the unit rules for AoS not actually free (excluding legacy armies) and you're expected to buy and collect white dwarfs or pay money on this app to get them?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

No. All unit rules are free, for all miniatures, including the new ones.

There is not this idea.

The unit rules are completely free, some of the formations and (all?) of the scenarios have to be paid for in some manner.

The app itself is quite nice.

You only pay for formations and battle plans that come with campaign books and the Age of Sigmar book (for those who weren't interested in the starter set models)

Dled it, and a while it is nice, its very disapointing I cant unlock the items from the physical books I bought. So not much use in the app for me

While they could make it a scan to unlock, it would be hard to prevent people from buying 1, splitting it then just passing the book around for many people to unlock

It's not that hard to just put a one use only download code in the book, that you then enter into the app to unlock the stuff.

Why not send that to their app team as a suggestion? Might see something come of it?

Damn! I bought all the books, purchased all the formations at $1.99 a crack, and now I have to spen spend $12-$18 for the same formations in order to get the battleplans?

Great idea, but not so great after folks already paid you for the same formations (and I paid more than $16 jus for the formations in the stormcast battletome :( )

I absolutely reject the idea of using iphones, pads, laptops on my wargaming table. Nothing beats some nice laminated cards that would be actually something that I would invest in.

You should reject the implementation, not the idea.

I used to think that way until I got a smart phone... it is great. I don't live on my phone but it is very convenient.

The age of sigmar app is amazing for gaming and it's all my group uses when we play (each with our own phones). No searching for pages, flipping through books, just one click back and select the unit you want.

You can also look up your opponents units too, to make sure they aren't cheating.

I actually quite like the app. Anything that reduces clutter on the tabletop is a plus. Picking through piles of paper to find that one particular rule or unit wastes a lot of gaming time.

This app is so annoying. On my iPad mini (with newest iOS), it crashes immediately when not in Wi-Fi...

How am I meant to use this at the local GW? Lol
