Hello guys, I got some questions for you,
-I have like 48 swordsmen, 50 halberdiers, 30 archers, 20 handgunners, a captain with standart and a general on foot, and 12 cavalry men.First of, what should get next ? Second of all, are musicians, standarts and the champion(sry I have the german codex so I don't know the name) worth it ?
- Do you use detachments ? If yes, examples of said formations ?
thank you for your help.

In a melee unit you definitely want the full command group as they all increase the unit's efficiency.
Ranged units, best to tinker and see what works for you - I've known people use some, none or all of the command option in handgunner units quite happily.
I'd look at adding at least 1 wizard, if only or dispelling.
When you say cavalrymen, do you mean you have knights or outriders/pistoliers? Because get a unit of the one you don't have...

Are you asking for the old 8th ed block way of doing things, or are you asking for Age of Sigmar?
Because in AoS or the old methood, that army can be worked differently.
In both fashion thought, I would recommend a Standard (that 'loose no one on a 1' on a breaktest is a Godsend)
musicians in AoS are more or less useful until now, since I never had the chance to use a counter charge. champions are an extra attack, so always fun.

I would get a Grey Wizard for the army, as Pit of Shades and the one where you get to use the Leadership as Strength are both incredible spells.
Place him inside the Swordsmen unit as they are the most durable and run them in a bus formation (5 wide, 10 ranks deep). Add either the archers or handgunners as a detachment either side and place the BSB in the Swordsmen unit too. That'll make a very solid bunker and your detachments will benefit from the Swordsmen's Steadfast, and the Captain's 'Hold The Line' + Banner.
Those Halberdiers are probably better off ran as a horde (10 wide, 5 ranks). Halberdier hordes are very nasty.
I would add a Grey Wizard, and a Cannon or Steamtank next. :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

You should probably grab a warrior priest for the halberd horde. I like light wizards with the buff spells you can turn your cheap units into monsters. A good combo is WP, Celestial Hurricanum, Speed of Light/Time Warp Spell. THen you are getting 30 S4 attacks hitting on 3s and rerolling hits because of hatred as well as wounds if you get the buff off. With speed of light you hit everyone first and that is hard for most armies to weather.
You also need some warmachines. A hellblaster and a cannon are a good investment. Demigryhs are also really great a unit of 3 or 4 of them is solid.
There are some more good tips on the Warhammer Empire Forum.
