Hey guys, I have an issue with my painting. I don't necessarily know if it's a problem, but it is something I've been thinking on lately. One way or another, all of my armies end up blue.

I play Crimson Fists and Space Wolves which get the blue treatment for obvious reasons. I tried to design my own Eldar colour scheme and it ended up royal blue. My Guard are looking like they'll either match my Fists or Wolves. Even my Orks have a high proportion of Lootas and Deathskull types.

Does anyone else have the same thing happen to them? I mean, I like blue and it seems to be one of the easiest colours to get a solid coat on and there's plenty of variety for highlighting and shading purposes. Not necessarily a big problem, just something I've become wary of lately. I don't want to be known as "the blue guy"

Red is a common accent colour for me. Crimson Fists obviously, Orks it works well on. Wolves because I hate painting large patches of yellow so go with red instead. Guard will get red accents if I decide to match them with my Fists. Eldar originally had red on blue until I realized it made them literally look like Crimson Fists in Eldar armour so I switched it for Snot Green.

Sisters of battle (the red colour scheme)
Khador (red and grey)
All my one-off marines end up a bit blood-angels-y

I've chosen Yu Jing for my infinity faction, but all the orange bits are coming out a bit reddish...

Yup, green here. Orks, Orcs and goblins, Necrons with green gauss, Biel-Tan, Death Guard, Nurgle themed Ogres...

You're not alone! ;D

I am a chronic blue painter. Pretty much every one of my armies can be broken down to blue.

- Space wolves in the traditional sky blueish colour
- Bad Moon Orks which are yellow and green which comes together to make blue
- Cygnar for Warmachine.

I got sick of it, so I decided to buy Vostroyans and paint red.

This is funny, "same problem" except mine is black.
Black Templar, Black Legion, IG/AM unique army is a grey and black... thank goodness for Grey Knights! (Though is that a lighter shade of black?).
I have managed to resist playing the dark elves or Ulthwé eldar.

I think it is because you find a colour you get good at shading and run with it.
I had fun with Khorn with the Chaos army so got good at shading red as well so of course almost all weapons are painted red in any given army to make use of that skill.

Making extensive use of similar colours for multiple forces fits well in the meta: you can mix them and it looks like a cohesive force... it is all good!

for me it's grey and red. Im currently really trying ot break it to keep my guard, admech and knights from all looking the same, but I'm not having an easy go of it.

Everything I paint ends up white and pastel colours.

I'm incapable of doing anything grimdark for my own army. I even did Gaunt's Ghosts and messed it up by giving them all pink knives.

In my defense, I'm colourblind, but I also seem to have an allergy to seriousness.

My chosen Tau color scheme is blue, but my other armies are different colors, so they don't remotely look like each other. I do have a long-term goal of starting an AdMech army and painting it green w/red to sort of go with my Dark Angels though...

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Don't have that problem.

Orks (Green/Yellow)
Tau (Red-ish)
Dark Angels (Black & Bone)
Tyranids (Blue and Purple)

I reckon i'm buggered if I start *another* army, though.

Get your models on the table and looking good!

You could do a cult of slannesh that's bright orange and pink

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Both of my armies that I intend/plan to play regularly are predominantly Red.

Vostroyans, which are Red and Brass/Bronze with a lot of browns and other shades on the infantry.

Blood Angels, which are of course Red with Gold, black, and other accent colors mixed in liberally.

I think there's some truth in the staying with colors you're comfortable painting and know how to shade effectively. Red isn't even my favorite color, but I love painting it and enjoy the way it looks on the tabletop.

That's my contribution. Thanks for reading everyone. Take it easy.

Here is my solution to this common problem.
If you are going to paint a lot of figures in the same color, grab a bunch of totally unrelated figures and paint them alongside each other. The one rule is this;
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE COLOR THAT YOU ARE PAINTING YOUR ARMY WITH! This way will force you to get more creative and stop boredom setting in.
It works,trust me.
