me and my brother are trying to play bfg but dont have enough $$ to buy modelos from ebay. is there any alternitive models for the game?

Scratch built is the way to go or buy yamato 2199 ships or battlefleet helios ships

Best way is to use counters as models aren't there to represent anything besides unit type, they are just for decoration and for making people spend more money to be able to use different ships.

I made my counters from a transparent plastic document holder. IIRC they are 3cm for cruisers and escorts and 5cm for battleships. The counters also have fire/turn arcs on them.Used to put ship info on them but decided that it's impractical. I just replaced it with numbers, so that they can be differentiated from each other.

This way you can play battles with all armies and diverse ships and you can put ships much closer to each other because the models don't interfere.

That is true but the visuals are rather poor then. Moving around with space ship models just makes it a little more fun in my opinion.

BRG Tyranid models can be easily scratch built from 40K Tyrantid bits. I've seen some scratch built fleets that looked even better than the offical models.

Proxies for many of the offical ships can be found on Shapeways. Some of these are "BFG-ish" while others are pretty much carbon copies of the offical models. Cost wise, with 3D printing you are not going to save a lot of the ebay cost of the real ships.

Beyond that, there are a lot of companies making spaceship games these days. I'd look at Firestorm Armada for a start, as they have several different fleets that could proxy for different BFG factions. There are other's too, depending on how relaxed you are about matching the "look" of the offical BFG models.
