Would you have a problem with it?

I want a soul grinder but have an opportunity to pick up a second hand defiler cheap and was wondering how big of deal to use it in my kdk as soul grinder. Any way I could mod it to look like a grinder without replacing whole upper? Was thinking about putting deamon head on it or something.........not sure what weapons I would have to replace ? Thanks for your time

It depends on who you are playing against, I can have a game with a defiler that I state is a soul grinder and people are either "yeah no worries" or "OMG N0ob GG Scrub Lord"

But you can always rely on green stuff and wrap the torso and claws up and add demonic lumps and spines and just base coat it Mem' Red and add some detailing and you'd have a proxy soul grinder that I'd be happy to play against

If someone isn't willing to let you count a Defiler as a Soulgrinder when the models are 80% identical then I'd be taking a pretty detailed look at their own army.

I also don't really like the goofy soul grinder model. The defiler kit has pretty much everything you need to model a grinder, just make sure it has some cannon-type thing if youre using any of the the shooty upgrades, and an auto-cannon lookin thingy for the harvester cannon.

Here's mine, which is mostly just the ectoplasma head from the forgefiend kit.

Depends on who your playing. Most people wont mind at all. There will be the occasional hater, but haters gonna hate no matter what.

As with all proxying its the only person who can answer if it's allowable is the people you are playing with.

Let's see.

Soul Grinder has iron claw. Defiler has claws too.
Soul Grinder has battle cannon like weapon. Defiler has a battle cannon.
Soul Grinder has a sky firing Autocannon. Defiler has Reaper Autocannons.
Soul Grinder is a walker. Defiler has legs.

Anyone who complains, tbh meh you'd probably not enjoy playing them anyways. Their loss.

The Defilers are kinda pants and waaaay too expensive to be AV12 on front and badly organised weapons.

Though I'll only get a Soulgrinder if I'm taking my KDK down to Battle Brothers.

I would think in friendly games it should be fine. But obviously if people are strict wysiwyg then it wont fly. (But outside of a tourney, those people are db's)

Even with wysiwyg, the Defiler is a perfect match. Look at my previous post, a soul grinder with an iron claw, phlegm bombardment cannon and sky fire cannon can be legitimently represented by a Defiler with iron claws, battle cannon and a reaper auto cannon. The stats are the same across the board.

Plus it looks better, the Defiler is a beautiful model.

I have 3 Defilers and 2 soul grinders.... I run them all as soul grinders with phlegm bombardment from a Khorne Daemonkin Bloodhost detachment. ... I haven't had anyone have a problem with it- but I don't play tourneys- it would probably be a problem there.

As a side note... 1 maulerfiend is ALOT more survivable when you have 5 soul grinders! Lol

You'll usually find that people who are fairly strict about WYSIWYG on their opponent's armies are just as strict on it with their own...

1)tin foil.
2) some wrapping where it counts
3) a surprised look on your face
4) what's that? A phlegm bombardment to your face?
5) happy dance before you die to eldar d weapons.
