I have always loved these little suckers, but have not played them since back in the 90s, and then only in WHFB. I recently started painting various Daemons to ally in to my CSM army, and I have tried Nurglings a bit now. I was impressed I must say, as the small buggers ate a lot of fire and survived quite the load, being Shgrouded and all.

Have anyone here tried playing a gakload of Nurglings, Infiltrating as meat and objective holders/contesters? Any input and tips would be nice.

A 'gakload' isn't really a great plan - nurglings are cheap, but they're not massively harder to wipe out for their points than plaguebearers.

Where they shine is in minimum sized units - they're easier to hide (meaning you can get them further up the board) and when they go to ground in cover, they have a 2+ cover save.

Essentially they're a great use for a spare troops choice. They won't kill anything, but they will hold an objective unless your opponent diverts something heavy to burn them off it - provided you can give them a higher priority target (hello, deep striking Great Unclean One) they may never get shot at.

Nice tips! I was thinking about 6 MSU units (3 bases in each then), that ought to meddle a bit with midfield objectives, bubblewrap things and just be in the way. Keep em in terrain for better cover saves.

Agreed with Locarno, the most competitive use is MSU Nurgling units as objective grabbers. You can deep strike them in, they can be surprisingly resilient to enemy fire and they are cheap. Their very low points cost means opponents will often begrudge having to divert shooting to deal with them; and in some cases won't bother, especially if there's a bigger target, leaving them unmolested on the objectives to do their job.

If you're looking for a fun use, try 9 Nurgling bases and a Herald with the 2+ poisoned locus in a Land Raider. It's not very competitive but you never know what a tide of Nurglings spilling off an assault ramp could do with the weight of attacks.

Per point nurglings can be much superior to plaguebearers in terms of survivability. However, this is only true when facing str 5 or lower weapons.
Even with Shrouded + g2g + cover, those str 6 weapons will still put the pressure on nurglings.

The biggest problem at the moment is the proliferation of spammable str 6+ weapons in the game. Basing an entire army around T3 multiple wound models is risky when scatbikes are a common occurrence.

There are quite a few blast weapons out there that can get ignores cover too.

Nurglings are good, but I'd take them in small numbers to fill up mandatory slots and unlock the good stuff as cheaply as possible.

Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated. I will relieve GW of 5 boxes of nurglings then.

And don't forget they can throw defensive grenades and blind low-initiative units...great against Orks and Necrons.
