Just finished off my Captain last night and snapped a few pictures this morning. Lighting wasn't the best but I'll update with improved pictures this afternoon once I can take some with natural light versus multi-directional lamps. I hope you guys like, and would love some feedback on the mini as well. This will be the commander of my new Blood Angels army, now slowly in progress.

So, without further delay, here he is.

Captain Aedus Sendini, Keeper of the Arsenal, Commander of the Blood Angels V Battle Company; "Daemonbanes"

Wargear: Artificer Armor, Iron Halo, Frag/Krak Grenades, Digital Weapons, The Crown Angelic, Valor's Edge, Jump Pack, and a Hand Flamer.

( WIP/Progress thread here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/660997.page#8068184 )

Thanks so much for looking, and I hope everyone likes the finished product. More/further pictures will be added later today or tomorrow once I can get them this afternoon.

Take it easy for now.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Further updated pictures. Quality is a little lower than I'd like. Better pictures will be taken later if I can manage it.

Thanks for looking and any feedback is appreciated.

Take it easy everyone.

Well, I will say the painting itself is clean. The issue I have here is there is no shading and even just a wash would give this a bit more depth. There are a lot of BA painting tutorials out there, check 'em out, they may help if you're interested.

I appreciate the feedback, and attribute this to the lack of good lighting in both sets of pictures.

So you know, I used three different washes on the armor (Baal Red, Seaphim Sepia, and Ogryn Flesh) to help with shading, in addition to troll slayer orange edge highlighting on extreme edges in several places.

I'll see about getting some shots with better lighting and using a better camera tomorrow to hopefully show the shading the washes provide in more detail.

Thanks for the feedback as well.

Take it easy for now.

I think the shading might have to do with your washes. For red armour, I usually use nuln oil, agrax earthshade, and occasionally a purple wash. Ogryn, sepia and baal red won't really do much to red since they are so light.

That said, the model is neat and clean, I'd just opt for some more shading, though it requires more touch up work after the result is good.

I will say I did use Nuln Oil on a very few places on the mini (specifically, around the top and side of the right knee pad, and on the 'crevices' of the thighs near the to at the hip joint/ribbed sections) I limited it to use on select areas such as the actual ribbed sections at the armor's joints that are painted metallic. I didn't want to have it be too dark, and used the brown and red washes to keep the shading more subtle and less.. stark? That's the word I would use for it anyway.

My last BA army I painted years ago I used a micron pen to do all the crevices and line work and while it looked good from a distance, upon close inspection the mini didn't look quite as nice as I would have wanted. In an effort to try and prevent that, I'm trying to use washes and keep the shading present, but more subtle. I may try and go in and add some light touches of Nuln oil to the armor in specific places to help shade the recesses a little more.

I appreciate the feedback once again. More photos will come soon.

Take it easy.

Quick follow up on this thread, I've been working on the Command Squad for Captain Sendini here and wanted to throw a quick picture or two up of the first completed member of the Command Squad; The Sanguinary Novitiate.

Thanks for looking. Any & all feedback is appreciated, further members of the squad will be added later as they're finished up.

Take it easy for now.

Looking good. Do you plan to do ropes on other models white too or is it just the priest who will get white ropes?

Any other command squad member with ropes on them (Currently only one so far, the Company Champion, WIP pictures of the mini are in my gallery if interested) are being painted white in the same style.
I may carry that theme over to ropes being used on other squads/models but haven't made up my mind as yet on how much white I plan on using on my Blood Angels tactical and assault squads.

I'm setting the theme for the army with this squad (And the Captain) so I may incorporate white and gold in more heavily into the color scheme to help break up the red. We'll see I suppose.

Thanks for the comment Evildrcheese. Take it easy.

Stormshield and powerfist! Yes, yes, yes.

Looking good indeed. Have you done the gem on his right shoulder purple or black. Difficult to tell in the pic. Am I correctly remembering you wanting to do obsidian stones?...

It is indeed black, Obsidian/Onyx stones are going to be mixed in liberally, as I am fielding my force as the 5th Battle Company. The 5th uses a black tear drop shape on a red field.

Glad you like the way he turned out Evildrcheese.

More to come soon. I've begun work on a Death Company marine last night. Will have further updates on the army to come.

Take it easy for now.

Death company marine looks awesome. How big a squad are you gonna do and how many fists!

Are you gonna do the drops on the bolt pistil in obsidian?

Hey Dr. Cheese. Glad you like, and I'm going to start with a squad of just five, with one Power Axe mixed in. next bank of five will likely have a power fist in it. After that I'll paint up an eleventh marine to swap out with the axe if I've got spare points, or if I want to just make the squad that much larger. Death Co. are going on the back burner for the moment while I keep working on my Command Squad/Honor Guard.

As for the blood drops on the Bolt Pistol, I'm going to leave them as is. I see them as being non-gems, (also they're so damn tiny, I'd go insane trying to paint gem work on those!) and will leave them red to match the pistol's casing. The mini's got enough black on it already I think.

Thanks for the comments also.

More to come soon. Take it easy for now.

Another Command Squad member joins the fray! Finally finished off my Company Champion tonight once I got my hands on the proper Power Sword I wanted to use.

Very happy with this mini. The new Blood Angels bits continue to be a joy to work with. Any comments and constructive critiques welcomed. Thank you for looking.

Another awesome mini. I really like the clean style of your BA.

The pose of the Champ is great, like he's just won a challenge and is surveying for his next opponent.

Great stuff as usual.

Thanks so much for the kudos EDC. I've been steady at it and am happy to announce the Honor Guard is complete!

First, here are the two veterans that have been completed since I updated this thread last:

(Not the best pictures, was having a bad night with my photo-fu when I took these.)

Next, here's the last veteran marine of this Command Squad/Honor Guard.

Thought there was going to be an issue with the right arm shoulder pad but I managed to make it work thank goodness.

Now, with that out of the way, here's the whole squad together.

And, with Captain Aedus Sendini himself.

I tried to take some updated pictures of Captain Sendini, but I'm afraid I didn't have the best setup for getting in close and taking good detail shots. I have worked on his shading and tried to add a few very extreme highlights to a few spots on his armor (didn't want to go overboard of course). The few I took are toward the top of my Finished Blood Angels gallery if anyone cares to take a gander. Pictures aren't the greatest, but hopefully once the rain stops in a few days I'll be able to set up a better light box outside and get some good natural light photographs.

As always, comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Thanks for looking, and take it easy for now everyone.

Some really gorgeous looking stuff here Red. The names just add a little bit more character to the models. I love it.

Second Death Company marine finished up, about to begin work on the third one. Check it out.

Really liking the new Blood Angels chapter bits, allow for some awesome conversions and ability to add a lot of character to basic marine bits such as the old school assault marine legs, torso and head. BA arms + Weapons, shoulder pads, and jump pack really transform a generic marine model quite nicely into a Death Company marine.

More to come soon. Take it easy for now.
