On the back of a hog.

The FW Chaos Renegade lists are pretty sweet. Especially the one from Siege of Vraks.

My problem is Morale for my guard squads, heavy weapon squads, and artillery. The Uncertain Worth special rule (roll a dice and add 4 to determine leadership) is pretty harsh. It's not like Codex Imperium where I have plethora of BB allies or special rules that boost morale.

Best I can think of is cheap Khorne Daemonkin Heralds for fearless. But I'd really like to keep my renegades as a CAD, so by ITC rules the best I can do is 3 heralds (Renegade CAD + Daemonkin CAD + Daemonkin Ally). But that's kinda a hefty price tag (350pts) since I have to buy 3 bloodletter units also (hate clutists) just to give 3 squads fearless.

My buddy's alternative idea is to stick a CSM Dark Apostle in a unit for his LD10 bubble and combine this with the renegade command squad banner (roll 3 dice for leadership tests and pick the lowest). BIG problem here is that the command squad is four T3 dudes and the Apostle's LD bubble is only 6inches.
EDIT: Nevermind this won't work as zealot is only granted to csm. Banner will. But its a little weak.

Sooooooooo... Anyone got any ideas? Or any suggestions on refining the above ideas so they aren't so bad/squishy?

Danka!

Baneblade , or heralds or take so many units morale isn't a big concern.

Pretty sure the dark apostles bubble is codex csm units only, which is annoying.

Kharn isn't a terrible choice either.

Unfortunately that doesn't help my artillery, which I am more concerned about than the more disposable infantry units.

Your right, the Dark Apostle doesn't work. I don't have hundreds of guardsmen to make an unending horde or whatever unfortunately. Nor do I have the $180-$200 for a Baneblade.

Heralds are all I got left unfortunately. Unless anyone has any other ideas?

You've got four options:

1) Take the Devotion which allows you to buy Fanatic for everone and take Vox-casters. You're then on roll 2D6, reroll if you want to, and pick the best. On 4D6 you've got about a 94% chance of leadership 8 or better.

2) Find a baneblade going cheap on ebay - If you're prepared to accept a model that's already assembled and/or do a bit of repair work (you have a renegades army, so it's fine if the model looks a little patched, after all!), you should easily get one for less than you're suggesting.

3) As noted the chaos sigil from the IA13 version is much more powerful, essentially making you unbreakable from shooting casualties.

4) Accept that uncertain worth is the price of doing business with renegades and just take advantage of your units' low cost. Who cares if one squad runs away if you have another unit behind it!

What I usually do in my renegades army is one or some combination of;
1) Like you said put KDK chaos lords or heralds in the important units. If you really think about it you will realize that in any one game only some of the artillery units are important enough to actually spend points to keep on the board. ie against a green tide the earth shakers are sub optimal and the thudd guns are what you need. I usually take some blood hounds, bikers, heldrake, etc. as well though as mobile scoring is never a bad thing and the baleflamer gives an army sorely lacking ignore cover a great ignore cover weapon. The units of 8 blood letters actually make for pretty good counter assault, chaff, and forward objective takers.
2) Take a vox net on the mandatory command disciples. Hide this small unit out of LoS. This alone is usually good enough as you have a pretty high chance to roll well enough for them to keep your artillery in. However since "good enough" is not great you can stick a chaos sorcerer in the unit (I recommend one from crimson slaughter with divination) this gives the unit Ld 10 which the command vox then gives every unit within 12". Also this gives divination.

Vox and Hate banner on well hidden/protected command squad near your artillery units. Can also put witch or zealot demagogue in the artillery unit for fearless.

It's tough to shift artillery at T7 so I think you are worrying too much. As soon as they are in CC it's over anyway! >.<
