What would people like to see in 20K, my HH/40K prequel?

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone even more die-hard old-school than myself has got anything they'd like to see in my 20K series? The more obscure, the more retconned, the better.

I've got loads of older, obsolete (i.e. retconned for the kids) fluff that I'm working in. Some of it's obscure, like planets relying on convoys of water tankers. Some is stuff that had mixed reception in the Rogue Trader days, such as Eldar-Zoat relations.

I'm also planning the origins of the Dark Eldar and human characters will visit a vast, webway-based citadel called Commoranth, which in the Eldar tongue means something like "Shining City of Eternal Light", a place which doesn't quite live up to its name...

Has anyone got access to any Rogue Trader era fluff, like the 40K fluff bible that can be accessed online?

Don't forget to throw in the odd recalcitrant Squat. The early days of human tech owed much to the tech of their Squat friends so I believe. Lets see lots of familiar early imperium tech in early Squat prototype form. Mole mortars and the like.

And let's have an Eldar cat called Tevildo.

I've got two "phases" for 20K, the first being humanity venturing out into the darkness and encountering foes, the second being where humans are more confident and starting to make strides towards a "united" Imperium.

The settlement of the Homeworlds (and the origins of the Squats) is part of the second phase of stories.

Hmm... I'll have to research Eldar cats, I have no idea what that means!

I don't know if this is exactly your cup of tea, but maybe some early days of Tau expansion? Like meeting some alien species and trying to get them to join, or a case of them first meeting orks, and failing at diplomacy. I don't know if this is your kind of stuff to write about, but I'm just throwing it out there.

If you were going pre heresy/ great crusade, I'd be more interested in a unification wars story. Seems like there would be plenty to tell and it would be easier to prevent it from spinning out of control.

As I understand the fluff, the Unification Wars occurred when the Emperor united Earth after the Age of Strife, which is pretty far ahead of the 20K stories I've planned. I was aiming more to show humanity heading towards its Golden Age of Technology while sowing seeds for the distant Strife.

As for the Tau, I had considered it but have only just came up with a good idea to work them in.

EDIT: I have always wanted to write a Unification Wars story and could do a spin off series at some point.

It's called a Gyrinx apparently. I think It was an old part of eldar fluff that may have been incorporated into current fluff. Don't know if they were called Gyrinx back in the day.

Tevildo is a name from Tolkien. An earlier version of Sauron as the Prince of cats.

I can fit all the Eldar stuff in quite easily although it will take me a while to finish the stories I've already queued up.

B1soul, my story Faithless which is currently in progress is the first HH or 40K crossover into 20K.

There are other 40K crossovers planned. These are excerpts from my "20K timeline" in which characters from the 21st and 41st millennia do some translocating. I haven't quite worked out how the surviving 40K elements would return to their own timeline, or why it doesn't lead to 21st millennium Astartes, but I'll think of something

20K timeline stories

991.M21 – XMS Trafalgar, the Fearless’ sister ship, is blown off-course by a warp storm and is rescued by the Fearless. Temporarily becalmed in the warp, the two starships conduct teleporter experiments. The experiments go terribly wrong and a squad of Empire Guard are beamed across time and space to the hellish realm of Medrengard, where they are taken prisoner by formidable Iron Warriors led by the Warsmith Berossus. 993.M21An Iron Warriors fleet travels through a phasic rift into the 21st Millennium, having used daemonic technology to track the survivors of Medrengard through time and space (see “Iron Within”).
