									  warning, wall of text.

Hello, i have decided to start infinity my local gamestore which plays primarily Flame of War, Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Age of Sigmar (Fantacy) and as such, have no shortage of 15mm and 28mm terain. But absolutly none for a game of Infinity.

At the moment i am the only one interested in the game, and have persuaded a friend to play with me, hopefully sparking the other members interest. Now i have done everything from read the rules, to proxy playing with 40k minis to reading the forums. And it is becoming clear from the very killy proxy games with card cases and cerial box's and the forums that terain is a huge and influential part of the game.

If you have a sniper on high, with LOF over the whole map, or even just the second level, it can lead to a very frusterating game. I know terain can expensive, but im willing to put in the money and would most likely donate it to my local gamestore aftet the fact.

What im trying yo ask is for a recomendation for a mat (preferably urban city like the "District 5 mat sold on the main Infinity store), recommendations for the buildings, barriers and boxes to go with the mat, and tips for laying out a table for a fun game of Infinity.

I see that some mats have greyed out sections to represent where buildings should be, but i wouldnt know where to begin to get the terain to match those slots. I would greatly apreciate any tips, ideas and links you could give, and thank you!

PS. The reason im making a post at all and not going out and buying any 'ol piece of terain i see on any 'ol site o see is because if i am willing to put the money in, and i dont have an extensive knowledge on all kinds of terain availale. I want it to look good when we play, and i want it to be fun (IE: terain rich)
  I bought operation icestorm btw

See this thread for peoples' suggestions: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/664116.page

There are few Kickstarters at the moment if you want to buy a decent amount in one go by year-end and that require minimal construction.

As for mats, I have a 6x4 FAT mat that I use (not used other brands). It's great. We'll use a 4x4 section of it for Infinity.

I have a table of micro art studio district 5 buildings but use 4 deadzone mats as my surface. I wouldn't exactly recommend the deadzone ones for infinity, but they were cheap when I got them. One advantage they do have is having a generic urban concrete texture, an issue with the highly detailed ones like the district 5 mat is that it dictates the setup of you board. Whilst looking nice playing on the same board gets old quickly. You could of course put buildings wherever you want, but then buildings going over roads etc looks weird. Hence my preference for generic textures.

In terms of quantity of buildings for a 4x4 table, I use about 10 of a various assortment of apartments, garages, guardposts (I think) and L buildings of the mas line. But I have a rather tall urban board. There's a lot of other nice HDF companies out there, warmill, warsenal, shark mounted lasers, CNC workshop (Base 0 iirc), systems etc. But MAS was just locally distributed and so quite a bit more affordable.

One other thing is that if you just have buildings, it'll likely be a bit lame, you need scatter terrain. In many cases, buildings just function as a big box that you move around or go on top of. Multi storey buildings do become tedious to play in after a while. Hence I'd suggest to stick mainly 1 storey with the odd 2nd floor around as its much more useable. Most HDF companies do multi level buildings that can easily be assembled as multiple single level ones.
The cat walks or gantries are also good to get as they're easy to use in game and provide the elevation and cover you look for in terrain.

And lastly scatter terrain. Some compaines sell this in HDF, often looks a bit funky but most of its in some sort of resin or pressure cast foam. Antenocitis workshop does quite a bit like street junk (bins, vending machines, signage etc), jersey barriers and vehicles (which arent quite to my taste). For myself though i scratch built my scatter terrain out of card and foamboard as its quick enough to do, and as you need a fair bit can get expensive quickly. For vehicles if you snoop around local shops you can probably find toy cars that are about the right size. If you can find luxury cars they tend to fit in alright.
