Hi
I want to use the Skitarii Rangers as allies for my Guard. They will be deployed in Valkyrie and jump onto the battlefield and I want to buff them somehow.
One option is ML2 full Biomancy or Divination Primaris Psyker [75p] and there is still one place aboard Valkyrie left.
Any ideas?
Maybe an Inquisitor? Which one? What loadout?
---
Skitarii unit: [180p] - note that Galvanic Rifle's range is 30''
10 men
2x Transuranic Arquebus
Omnispex
Valkyrie [135p]
Multilaser
2x Rocketpod
Or wouldn't Vanguards be better, since they are drop troops and usually fight at closer ranges?
Thanks

Vanguard are generally considered to be the superior option in most situations. As drop troops coming out of a Valkyrie, I would recommend a 10 man squad with 2 Plasma Calivers, 3 if you are good with doing a kitbash of a regular plasma gun. The unit drops, turns on BS +3, and will usually annihilate its target. Oh and don't forget to bring an Omnispex!

I love this idea. Skitarii feel like what storm troopers could be. Alas.
In terms of what you run, I think you need to consider what rangers/vanguards can do that veterans can't and go from there. Vets can do plasma pretty well, have obsec, and can also gain ignores cover/monster hunters. Skitarii have their BS boosting abilities and better guns/saves.
If I were going to do something like this, I'd consider taking 5 rangers with 2 plasma calivers in a vendetta. Same number of plasma shots as a vet squad, but it fits into a much better vehicle.
If you go 10 man, I'd take vanguards and try and attach a combat inquisitor to them.

Original idea was to have some kind of elite shooting guard squad. They had to be modeled as guardsmen with kickass guns.
The main plus is Ranger's longer range and better guns than Lasguns. Yes, veterans could get orders, but once they are dropped on the other side of the battlefield, they will be out of command range anyway.
Ignore cover can be achieved by Divination psyker and Monster hunter is something i can live without.
Adding an inquisitor is good ides, (the Malleus one (not a Warlord)) but i dont know what kind of wargear he should have. Melee is not an option, since he haas to bee shooty.
S5 Boltgun is good, but is outranged by Galvanic Rifles and that is kind of waste. Hellrifle is nice gun, but it's heavy and Inquisitor is not relentless...
Hard decision.

Malleus inquisitor with terminator armor and a psycannon. Relentless, psyker, shooty, force demon hammer. S7 Rending pairs well with both the AP4 of the regular guns and most of the special weapons.

I've found my vangaurd never disappoint, and they annialate entire squads of even elites with sheer number of bullets, if you give em plasma you can also make them your warlord for preferred enemy to reroll ones
Idk why you'd put rangers in a transport range 30 and they have scout no reason to try and get them close
Rangers do lack a lot in fire power I think if you wanted to take any have one squad that sits back on an objective the pure firepower and varistiity of vangaurd are much better- its a scary charge for someone when the overwatch is 30 bullets

I use my Skitarii with my Armored Battle company. I usually put 10 vangaurd with 2 haywire guns in the squad inside a vendetta. Fly on, drop out. waste some infantry or punk a vehicle. Then keep on fighting.

The Haywire option sounds really good. I imagine running multiple and jumping out to hit 2 facing on a knight could cause some real issues, especially if you have anti tank weaponry covering another angle too.

You conviced me. I'll run the Vanguards with terminator Inquisitor /w psyker upgrade (Telekinesis)
Plasma Calivers are bit expensive, I'll give them two Arc rifles and maybe the Arquebus, if it's worth it.
What about Libre Heresius? It gives them either scout (which they already have), Fear, Hatred, Counter-attack or Split Fire for one turn.
Is it worth it for 15p?

Getting the split fire would be good. Because then you can split fire the arc rifles into a vehicle and the rad-carbines into something else. Personally, would not waste the points on a arquebus. Not when you can fire 5 hay wire shots with this unit. Rapid fire arc rilfes and arc pistol into something.
Side note, you may want to check the wording on the rad rules for the Vanguard. I think if you put an IC with them they take -1 Toughness?

Alright. I'll use third Arc rifle insted of a pistol.
and Rad-saturation rule says nothing about Independent Characters.

Honestly the arquebus can kind of suck, if you miss with that shot then oh well. I like arc rifles way better, I usually do plasma on vanguard and arc on rangers because they have moves through cover.
