In the warp, searching for Marbo

Based on my Dark Heresy game, I've decided to introduce my private army to my tabletop play.

THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS, I MADE A CHOICE(below)AND CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM IN ACTION!

(From IG codex)

5x Scions w/2 Meltaguns
1x Command Squad with 3x Plasma guns, Plasma Pistol, Medikit
-Joined by Divination Primaris

and

Vindicare Assassin

They're here to support my Guardsmen, providing mid to backfield support, and taking out key threats in an enemy list by deep striking. Most likely facing space marines.

After all these years of searching for Marbo...he found me. Heretics beware! He's back!

Switch to Renegades IA13 and have Scions (Grenadiers) with even more punch (2 specials, 2 volleys) and many cooler options (:

Depending on points, could you take a squad of 5 storm troopers with 2 special weapons (volley guns?) plus a tempestus command squad (with 4 volley guns)? You could just stick them in a bunker or in cover and put out some pretty sweet dakka. Bonus: 24 s4 ap3 ignores cover shots can do some work against ravenwing.

If you're going to add a plasma pistol to the Tempestor, take 2 plasma guns.

You're not going to need ap 3 killing, as Imperial Guard actually have that in spades. So use them to destroy vehicles or TEQ's. Plasma guns would be great for use against light vehicles and the pesky TEQ's.

Now, if I were to make two kits of Scions for the purpose of supporting my guard, I'd make one squad of 5 regular scions with 2 melta guns, and one Command Squad with 3 plasma guns, plasma pistol, and medi-pack.

You'll just have to find out where you can get another plasma gun as the kit only has one.

I don't believe in having 10 man squads of Scions unless you are running Militarum Tempestus alone.

Ignatius, I like your suggestion. I could deepstrike the melta troopers, and get a temp(transport thing) prime(with gatling cannon) for the Command Squad, or deepstrike them as well to ambush backfield objectives.

With the Assassin(I want to keep for fluff reasons), it would bring the point total to 490pt. 400 without the transport.

Of course, the idea of 4 hotshot vollyguns pumping out that much dakka, with ignores cover...Might be better than Plasma fire. Certainly is cheaper at 365pts.

A Command Squad packed with Hot Shot Volley Guns is great. I use one in my Militarum Tempestus army and it works wonders. Of course, it's different in that case as I don't have access to the high volume AP 3 stuff regular Guard has. That said, the best fit for your Scions will be based at least in part around what the rest of your force looks like. If your army is packed with Leman Russ Battle Tanks, then no you probably won't need all the Volley Guns. If it's got a few Executioners and loads of autocannons/lascannons, then maybe the Volley Guns are a better choice than the Plasma Guns. Both work well however, so don't think you're handicapping yourself by taking one over the other. Scions are awesome looking and can be pretty darn good on the table if played right. If you can, try a few games out with proxy's before you glue anything on and see which you like better.

If it means anything I run one Command Squad with the Plasma guns, Plasma Pistol, and Medi pack and another with four Hot Shot Volley Guns in my Militarum Tempestus so both are good choices. I just suggested the Plasma Gun build because you said you have two kits, which would only give you 2 Volley Guns. Unfortunately the Scion box is the only kit with those in there, where as Plasma Guns can be found in many places.

Probably should do this. Thanks for your insight, and advice.

I'm running them from the AM/Imperial Guard Codex. I can only use the normal guard orders.

4x ignore cover melta then, better than 2x melta.

Could always ally if you can afford to take a Command squad and a 5 Scion squad, and don't have any allies. If you're agaisn't allies, well, ignore cover is still an excellent rule to give to your meltas xd
