I just picked up the Armies of the Soviet Union book thinking about building armies for The Winter War and invasion of Poland and am a bit shocked that they don't show any organization lists from before Barbarossa. Any books that cover these 2 theaters from a Soviet perspective?

IIRC the Ostfront book has platton selectors for periods as far back as the battle of Kalin Gol [before either of the operation you mentioned]

Thanks. Looks like Ostfront covers Khalkyn Gol, then jumps to Winter War and Barbarossa. skipping Poland. That should work as a starting point at least.

Really the Soviet invasion was just them wiping up the remaining Polish forces who had been heavily depleted fighting the Germans in the previous fortnight with little real fighting, hence the lack of coverage in the book.

I agree. For the Soviets, Poland wasn't so much a campaign as an occupation. It's understandable that there is no coverage it.

The Poles at the battle of Szack might disagree...

But yes, very much a sideshow.
