So I'm looking at getting some custom models for a friend who is getting into what is basically a Slaanesh Daemonkin army (I know it's not a book, just approximating).
Wondering if I need to worry about Musicians and Standard Bearers; are they generally taken or usually ignored?

They have some uses. I find standards useful, but the musicians not so much.

If purchasing them as part of an army then I don't usually bother, but they get them free if summoned, so why not.

Standards - They're okay. The +1 to combat res usually doesn't make a difference because daemons either win combat big or lose combat big so the +1 is meager to affecting the LD test that gets invoked. The deep strike effect is cool but is only worth it if you are deep striking other slaanesh daemons (and most of the time you aren't). The Rapturous Banner upgrade is actually pretty neat because it can make WS3-5 you on 5+ most of the time and can make WS6-8 hit you on 4+ instead of 3+. Overall its a steep cost for mediocre results so is just better to save points and keep your units cheap.

Musicians - They're cool. The warp storm part of the effect is not worth the price but the reserve manipulation is good. Its great when running deep strike heavy armies as it helps you ensure you get most of your army in on turn 2. Only take if you plan on playing as such.

Champions - Cheap enough to take especially if you have the points to spare. At worse its 5 pts for an extra attack. But you do get some benefits such as some minor challenge shenanigans (snipe out a minor character, force the character to not attack) but it also helps you when you roll 3 on the warp storm table as they can eat the 3d6 instability check over your more valuable daemon characters like heralds or MCs.

Or if you summon your demonettes they are free if you have the models so why not.
