What do you guys think if there was some kind of experience system in Infinity? Like, you start with a bunch of rookies, they improve with each battle, gain new equipment, new skills, etc. Sounds fun to me.

The system is far too lethal for it to be worthwhile. The book-keeping would be a nightmare.

The current spec ops experience system is fine for carrying over one guy who gets better without the massive book keeping.

An infinity experience system where you can level up?

It's called the RPG.

The combat system for infinity is too lethal (even with a campaign experience system like paradiso) for it.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Or you have that opponent who brings nothing but Shock ammo and fire to the table

Lots of shock ammo isn't required. It's not uncommon for both sides to be very close to retreat at the end of a game.

With an experience system you'd wind up with one or two models surviving over and over and getting better and the rest either carrying over wound debuffs of being outright replaced each game.

Might as well just house rule some spec ops experience rules and use the current spec ops options than do all that.

A cool idea to think about, but probably best left out of Infinity. If it was it's own, separate game that would be awesome.

It could easily be a campaign system.

There already is one, it's called Campaign Paradiso. It's easy to homebrew your own scenarios, or even just grab some from ITS or just play a series of YAMS games, and follow the campaign sequence. Experience is accrued on a single model, your spec ops, or army wide as overall game bonuses. Doing it on every model would be a huge amount of book keeping, for little gain, as models die very easily. Also the 'gain equipment' angle doesn't work well outside of a special operative, since soldiers aren't given special gadgets for doing a good job. They're promoted, but they aren't taken aside and given a TO camo module to clip to their belt for holding a coffee shop. A special operative? He might be specifically requestion new equipment for his next mission, which makes a touch more sense.

The experience system works in the likes of Necromunda because they're gangers scavenging parts. They might kill someone with their stub pistol and go grab his sweet shotgun as loot.

I'm not entirely sure! I think that Infinity's skirmish mechanics make it RIPE for a special experience system. C was a good first foray, but it's just that - a first foray.

I think maybe making the Spec-Ops model the focus would be helpful - hell, maybe allowing two Spec-Ops models.

Banning the other option - the army upgrades - seems like a good first start.

The most balanced part of the campaign was the army upgrades, Spec-Ops got really imbalanced the longer you played as some guys Spec-Op would last for a good amount of game while others die quickly. And, both options for SpecOp death only made it worse. While fun it is impossible to get a balanced XP system as some people will shoot ahead while other lag behind.
