I... actually don't know. Help?

I want to get started with a gunline army in AoS,but I'm torn between three distinct colour shcemes: Swedes (Yellow and blue), Birts (Red and white, close to GW's) or homebrew (beige and gray), what do you think?

I think red and blue looks nice together ;-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Blue and yellow looks good because of the contrast and they are complementary as primary colors. Same goes for red and blue (and red and yellow). Red and white also provide a good contrast since white is neutral.

The problem with beige and grey is that it will look very dull. It is great for a modern army color scheme as the frequently employ browns, olives, greys, etc. But for medieval fantasy, usually vibrant, contrasting colors have a much more striking effect. It would also be a poor choice for medieval heraldry as it would be harder to discern on standards and the like and tend to blend in to the mud, sky, etc.

Beige or grey would be a fine background color to make a more vivid color stand out. So, for example, a yellow/brown beige (warm) might be paired with a blue or green (cool) or a blue grey (cool) with a yellow or red (warm). Often beige is going to be interchangeable with gold/yellow/white and grey with silver/black/white depending on shade, brightness, etc..

A lot of this comes down to personal taste. However, since you are asking for opinions, I like more realistic/natural looking neutral schemes (I know those color schemes are historical, but neutral loks more natural and dark).

The beige/gray scheme sounds lovely!

My own greatswords are painted in Landsknecht mercenary style, with each individual man having his "own" color scheme... I keep coming back to Teclis Blue and Yellow. It really is quite an amazing color combination. I really have to force myself away from it, lest my units begin to look too uniform

For that reason, I voted for the Swedes color scheme option.

Huh, you think a mixed scheme would work? Say they are mercenaries gathered underneath a single banner to ifght for freedom?

Here's one of my "complete" units of 20:

Spoiler:

Thus far, I have received only positive comments at the shop. And honestly, because they are so close aesthetically to Landsknechts, that I don't think you need to say they are fighting under a single banner for "freedom". Because the historical units fought under a single banner, but in the name of money. Obviously, if/when I get round to doing actual State Troops, they will have a unified city/territorial color scheme, but not the Greatswords

I'd say blue and yellow, that contrast is nice

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

The problem with good looking troops is that they're easier to shoot at.

Be a rebel and go for a bad contrast like purple and red. Make a special rule that they're hard to hit as they're offensive to the senses. Name the ability something like "my eyes, they burn!" or "don't look directly at them!".

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you pick.

If you want a grey option just goggle covenanter scots, light grey jackets and bright blue bonnets, look good with a fancy standard...
