Hi everyone- been lurking for a while here checking out the excellent articles and stunning galleries, thought it was only polite I should say hi.
I got hooked on
40k as a kid back in the 90s, and I've never really lost the miniature wargame bug.. but I've always had a few problems with
40k:
Cost -
prohibitively expensive miniatures. Blowing £300 on an army is just not an option when there's bills to pay.
Space - much as I'd love an 8' x 4' table, all I have practical room for is a standard size dining table, approximately 6'x3'.
My solution? I created my own game with it's own fluff (with a nod of the head to Command & Conquer's Red Alert universe) - fast moving, lethal combat, quick to reward initiative and punish mistakes, simple to learn yet hard to master. I've also shied away from heroic 28mm for humble 1/72 scale, keeping minis and vehicles far cheaper and solving the space issue, as in scale a 6'x3' table is effectively the same as 8'x4' in 28mm.
My site can be found here:
https://skinflintgames.wordpress.com and the game is also available on Wargames Vault here:

I'll be posting the odd pic and battle report, and I'd love to hear from people who've played the game
