Hi all,

So I've been trolling around trying to find a good unit for turn 1 board presence for my air cav guard army. I don't think this unit would be it, but what do you think of the following:

Xenos inquisitor with rad grenades and tome of extra special rules (for counter attack)
5 priests from the IG book with power mauls
5 priests from the sisters book with power mauls, 1 with book of auto-pass hymns
5 inquisition henchmen priests with power mauls
3 crusader henchmen
Sanguinary priest [or a wulfen stone wolf priest]
Cruising in a storm eagle

It's an absurd unit. Like, WTF are you doing with 800 points in a single unit absurd, but I feel like it could do work (and is unnecessarily OTT) with 45-60 s5 + rad grenades AP 2 concussive attacks rerolling to hit and wound on top of 3++ or 4++ rerollable and FNP for giggles.

Is the priest blob an idea worth pursuing or is it a waste of time to try and optimize it because t3 assault units are just a no-go from the start?

Cheers,
Ether

You need better saves against ranged weapons.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

One precision shot and you're taking hymn tests on their base Ld, which is quite bad. S6+ will remove that FnP. Power mauls aren't AP2, unless you're burning your hymn for the smash attacks.

So what are you going to use for the rest of the SOB and SM army. If that blob is 800pts you are going to have another 2-500 points sunk in to required allied FOC slots. So not much room left for your Aircav.

55 points for a scout squad, 65 points for a sisters squad, swap out a priest for Uriah Jacobs.

To be clear, this isn't for air cav, it's just a fun idea.

Since when can IG priests take power mauls?

Also, as others have said, I think they really work best as force multipliers than beatsticks on their own. They go down quick to shooting if they don't have ablative wounds around them.

2,500 points

2,500 points

1,500 points

41-31 since returning to the game.

pretty sure priests take ld checks on highest leadership. anyways that's my opinion after reading this http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?383184-War-Hymns-leadership. And if you are going that far stick in cypher for hit and run and shrouded.

IG priests definitely do it off their own leadership, it could be different for other priests but I doubt it (it says it explicitly in their entry)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Bear in mind that thread is two years old and was referring to battle sister priests, back in the time when psykers had to do leadership tests for powers
