Normally, in 1000 pts games, my and my opponent only play until turn 3. The whole thing, including description of the armies, pre-deployment rollings and the turns themselves only lasts about 30-40 minutes. In 1500 pts games, it is 40-60 minutes.

An average game in my store is 1 hour for 1000 pts and 2 hours for 1500 pts. On many occasions, I had finished the game with my opponent and looked at the other table, seeing two other plays who had been in the store before me were still playing the same game. You may think that I am utterly serious when playing and spend no time on bantering at all. Wrong. I make comments and have friendly talks with the guy I play with all the time. We do play till the end, or at the point where the situation is obvious who would win.

Not counting time wasted on going to the restroom or grabbing something eat, I feel like the reason why games last so long is because people don't learn the rules beforehand and keep having to check the BRB or the Codex. This is a flaw that can be removed so that games are sped up. Because the store is cramped on game day, this will allow more people to play or make them wait less.

How long is an average game you play? Comment below, let me know.

An hour, hour and a half, for a 1000-1500 point game? We play till random game length calls it or someone is tabled, usually.

Play with a lot of kids though, so their attention tends to wander. ^^;

Seriously? I think I'm doing something really wrong!

We play very, VERY casual games - just a few friends at someone's house - but we can take about 6 hours for a 1500pts game. This includes table setup, pre-deployment etc, but not army selection. Although we're playing until random game length (so last game went the full 7 turns), not stopping at turn 3.

We don't play too often, so rules knowledge does slow us down a little. The core stuff is fine, but I do have to look things up a few times during a game. Also, due to how rarely we play, unit knowledge is a little fuzzy, so we're checking special rules and the like.

So there are areas for us to speed up, and as I said, it's all pretty casual, plenty of banter and no real rush. I reckon with regular play we'd get down to 3-4 hours, but 60 mins for a 1500 pts game doesn't seem to be something we'll reach.

Are we having fun wrong?!

(Maybe it's army dependent - my regular opponents are Orks and Nids, so lots of infantry. My Eldar are infantry-heavy footsloggers, so last game I had 50-ish infantry, plus a few jetbikes and walkers - maybe time would be reduced if a third of my points was spent on a couple of WKs - but I'm not going there...)

I usually spend 3h for 2000pts, and I go until 6th turn or 5th.
This includes table setup, pre-deployment rolls, like psy powers, but not army selection.
Last year, it was a little more than 4h, so learning all the rules and becoming quicker in decisions help, but in no way I can do a game in 60 min.
Why to stop turn 3, BTW ?

Last night was a 1700 pt game and it took 3 hrs, that was list writing, table set-up, and game. We've had them go faster though, playing orks slows it down a little.

at least 2 hour for my 1500pts game at home. (can go up to 4 for a 1500-2000game if we have drinks).

At the shop, 1hours for 1250, and 2 hour for 1850 is usually how it unfold itself

As said above, 1k-2k games are usually 2-3 hours, including table setup, deployment, and friendly banter. However, I always play my games out unless it's clear one of us will be tabled. On rare occasions, I've had 2k point games go for 4+ hours.

We finish 2 games between 1800-2200 points in 8 to 10 hours, with food in between at some point

A 6 turn game at 1500 points lasts about 3 hours. Lack of knowledge about this rule or that rule does slow us down a bit, but having gamed through about six editions of codexes and BRBs, I think our middle-aged brains do quite well! If I were forced to hurry up and get done with my game, I'd be playing at home or looking for another venue. I genuinely feel bad for people stuck playing in GW stores.

I mostly play at tournaments with a time limit per round of about 2 hours 30 minutes for 1850 points. Usually we finish a game to at least 5 turns, sometimes we have to call it before then. In casual games at that point level, usually around 3 hours. I have played one 3000 point game, and that one lasted (from opening rolloff to game end handshake) about 5 hours, but we weren't hurrying or anything and it wasn't like there was a line to use the table (my FLGS has a lot of tables).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Because if one of us is not tabled yet, it is still obvious who would win at that point.

I usually spend 8-9 hours for a 10000 point game.

- 10000+ pts
Imperial Knights- 5 Standard Knights / 3 Cerastus Knights
Officio Assassinorum - 4 Assassins
CSM - 500pts? Maybe? Its from the Officio Assassinorum box so I'm pretty sure its not enough to run in a CAD
Vampire Lords- I have no idea I bought it like two days before I left country and they're still in storage so I'll have to see when I get back.]

My regular opponent and I usually take about 3-4+ hours to play 1,000 points. It probably takes this long because he plays orks, I play guard, and we only get to play every couple of months

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

For an average game (1500 points, random game length) I expect 3 hours. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the armies involved. I think a lot of the variation in answers comes from local army composition meta. If everyone plays competitive low-model-count lists, the games will be much quicker. Less guys to kill, and they are all very good at killing each other.
Just my $.02.
