i'm interested to hear what the Malifaux vets think about these models...
i own a bunch of the old metals, but these will be the first plastics i work with...
i am so excited to crack open this box of Showgirls, and paint some sheer stockings!!!

cheers

Haven't seen them in real life yet but the box looks good. Only thing about it is, I like the metal Colette more than the new plastic one. Somehow she simply has a more showgirl look to her than the new version but each his own.

I'll be getting them myself aswell in some time in the future. When I'm done with all the crews I need to since itll be a master I'll have double (well, one is a male version but still) so pretty low on the list compared to models I do not yet have

the two old metal sculpts that i prefer over the new plastics are Perdita and Rastputina (her little cat is awesome)...
they also happen to be my two favorite sculpts in the whole Wyrd catalog...

Misaki and Colette's new plastic versions win out over the originals, for me...
honestly, i like everything in the Smoke & Mirrors set (and the new Coryphee) better than the originals...
thankfully, the client agreed...

metal Colette looked too knock-kneed, and her face was not well sculpted (to my eye)...
the new one, with a dress that doesn't show off her crotch just seems more business-like, and the hand on the hip is sexier...
i also like the little flame in her hand...
i'm glad they kept the top hat, though...

Cassandra is a big improvement, with the sword on her shoulder...
lots of attitude in that sculpt now...

the performers are cooler, with their new elaborate hairdos...
the Mannequins look scarier with the new blades, and the doves don't look so goofy now...

i'm not sold on the squatting pose that one of the new Coryphee is in, but maybe that will grow on me once they get here, and i start building them...
the render looks a bit undefined...

now we just have to wait and see how the new Angelica looks when January rolls around...

i'll be sure and get pics of the new sprues, and document the build, once the minis arrive in a few days...

cheers

Bought the box this weekend, looks ace, really happy with the crew.

Not building yet to have for the group build, but can't wait to get the performers working with Brewie

One of the crews that's definitely on my list as and when I get back to Malifaux.

Can't wait to see your take on them, Jah!

Yea I can't wait for a close up of the box contents, I am still pretty partial to the metals though.

The only major change is Colette. The rest are pretty much the same.

So, you too are a fan of Gael Gouman. Poke around his gallery. He sculpted the Ortegas and Rasputina, and her little hoarcat. These happen to be the two crews I played back in the day. The new Ortegas, The new Raspy is just dull. The Ice Golem is an improvement though.

This Colette crew looks like a fun change of pace to paint. I might pick it up too.

The metals are awesome, and they are my favourite crew but TBH the arm/shoulder joints on the metals are so fiddly that just the fact they are in plastic now gives me warm fuzzies.

As are the gamin, wendigo, snowstorm(his new artwork makes him look like he doesn't have downs), and Raapy isn't suffering from a stroke.

Casting a spell, not having a stroke.

So, I did get the Smoke and Mirrors box. Wow. WTF is Wyrd doing? Now, I've been at this stuff for a long time, and I've had my share of fiddly bits-- heck, anyone else familiar with Infinity minis?-- but wow, just wow, some of the pieces are beyond absurd. I'm terrified to even attempt to remove some of the pieces from the sprue, like the legs for the mechanical doves. That said, the minis which I've dared to assemble so far -- Colette and the 2 performers-- have been fairly easy, although the legs for one of the performers are a bit awkward, and they look like they'll paint up nicely.

To complete a Colette crew, Angela and some Coryphees?

sorry, guys...
i've been having some serious laptop and camera issues...
i've got a new laptop, and a new lens is next on the list...
now i just need to figure out how to edit pics on the new laptop...

there is a good shot of the assembled crew on the Wyrd forums if you guys want to see the actual models, instead of renders...
i have not assembled the whole crew yet, just the first Mannequin i am starting with, and the Performer with the riding crop that is up next...

@NH Gunsmith: it just goes to show how preferences vary...
i think the new plastics are way better on this crew, but then, i wouldn't have touched the metals with a ten-foot pole in the first place...
i'm so stoked about the new look...

@thedarkavenger: actually, every single model is a major change...
Colette is very different...
Cassabdra's new sword on shoulder pose completely changes her whole vibe...
the Performers have very intricate hairdoes, with new dresses...
the Mannequins have bladed shoes, and a whole new look...
the Doves are now included in the set, and are much better sculpts...

as for Rasputina, i really love the original metal one, and can't stand the new one...
the rest of the plastics for her crew are a great improvement, but she doesn't do it for me at all...
thankfully, i have had the metal one for years, just waiting for the chance to paint her...

@Red Harvest: yes, i am a huge fan of Gael's work...
i have been corresponding with him for the last ten years...
he's a great guy, who does great work...
he has always done a more true scale style mini, which is not my preference, but his sculpts look so good, i just can't resist!!!

i am disappointed that the one performer doesn't have the cigarette holder like the render...
i'm going to have to grab the thinest piece of brass rod i can find, and do the conversion before i paint her...
her hand is so tiny, even my smallest paper clip won't do the job...

the legs of the Doves clip off the sprue just fine, but you need to be careful with the bodies...
i had one wing break when i was clipping it off the sprue, but it was easy enough to carve away one of the wing struts, and replace it with a pin, which fixed the wing, and still looks like the original part...
my issue with the doves is that they come with clear flight stands, but there is nowhere on the sculpt to slot it in:(...

for the crew, i am painting the Smoke and Mirrors box, the Coryphee, and Angelica (when she is released in January)...
i'm not sure what else my guy will be adding into the crew after that...

as an aside, the new plastic lamps are a great kit!!!
they look great, and have more variety than the single one in the Victorian accessories blister...
i look forward to building the display base for these girls, using both the blister of bits and the box of lamp posts...

all in all, i could not be happier with the new plastics for the Showgirls...
i just need to figure out how i will mount the Doves, and make a cigarette holder for the Performer...
everything else is pretty damn good, for my first experience with the plastics...

if i had a complaint about the plastics in general, it would be that the gaps are pretty serious, and have to be filled in before painting, which makes my usual approach of painting subassemblies impossible...
having to assemble the whole model makes it tough to get to some of the more recessed detail, like the back of the arching Mannequin, but the minis look great once they are built, and all the gaps are filled...

I too admire his work. Tu lui parles français? (you speak french to him?)

I've encounter a few gaps, nothing not easily filled. I do hate cleaning plastics though, instead of metal. And plastic is so slippery...

I mounted the doves-- finally clipped them and assembled them-- by drilling holes where their cloacas would be, and then using a pin ( well a sewing pin section) to affix them to the clear plastic base.

You might try some light weight fishing line-- 10# test maybe?-- for the cigarette. Thin enough, and a really short length would in fact stay straight. I think I'll try it myself. I ended up breaking the cigaretter holder on the old Sonnia Criid mini. Ah well. It was for her own good

@Red Harvest: my French is not very good...
i can speak a bit, but not write...

i'm not sure if i would be happy with a visible pin in the clear acrylic flight stands of the Doves...
i may just use a black painted pin, and creative interaction with terrain to hide it...

fishing line is an interesting idea...
if i were in Mazatlan right now, that would be the easiest solution...
luckily, i'm in L.A. right now, so there are plenty of model shops with brass rod...
i need new blades anyway...
the stock pin vice bits i use for pinning are too thick for doing this conversion...
a new Exacto blade should do the trick, though...
that fine point should make a small enough hole, without mangling the thumb...
then i have to do some really fine Greenstuff work to make the flared end of the holder with a cigarette, and a pinched end for the mouth piece...
i am nothing, if not a perfectionist with my work...

cheers

Well, if the brass rod doesn't suffice, try a bristle from a toothbrush. You should be able to find a pin vice bit the right diameter though. These minis seem so fragile and delicate, I would be very careful with using an exacto blade.

The pin I used is not really visible at all in the acrylic base because it is short, and the actual mini blocks it from most viewing angles. But, a clear acrylic pin could be readily fashioned from many sources, or just carve a tenon on the end of the acrylic base... which is what I should have done, come to think of it

Wait 'til you assemble the other mannequin. Gluing her blades to her hands will be, er, "entertaining".
