Hey guys. New to the forums here, and I'm just getting back into the game after a lengthy hiatus (last played in 3rd Ed). Anyway, I'm trying to sort out a decently competitive Space Wolves list that I can maybe throw into some tournaments. Several rules and game dynamics are new to me (Flyers, LoW, etc.), so I'm trying to figure some of that out, too.

If possible, I'd appreciate any constructive feedback toward fine tuning the list both generally and specifically toward countering LoWs and Flyers, since I have little experience with them. Anyway, here's the list, and thanks in advance:

Champions of Fenris CAD

HQ

Warlord
Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf w/Krakenbone Sword, Meltabombs, Fenrisian Wolf x2 (attached to TWC)
Ulrik the Slayer (attached to Blood Claws)

Troops
9 Blood Claws w/Meltagun, Rhino
10 Grey Hunters w/Meltagun x2, Rhino

Fast Attack

Land Speeder Squadron - 2 Speeders w/Heavy Bolter x2 each
Land Speeder Squadron - 2 Speeders w/Multi-Melta x2 each
Thunderwolf Cavalry- 3 Riders w/ Storm Shield x3, Wolf Claw, Powerfist, Thunderhammer

Heavy Support

4 Long Fangs w/4 ML + Pack Leader w/Terminator Armour, Storm Shield, Storm Bolter

Allied Detachment (Imperial Knight Oathsworn)

1 Knight Crusader w/Twin Icarus Cannon, Rapid Fire Battle Cannon

Or

1 Knight Errant w/Twin Icarus Cannon, Thunderfire Gauntlet, Thermal Cannon

My plan is to have a solid SW Force and use the Knight to counter opponents' LoW and Flyers. Thanks again!

I... actually don't know. Help?

Looks great, but why would you have a Termi guy with your Long Fangs?

To Valhall! ~2800 points

To tank wounds presumably.

Yeah, had some spare points, so I'm gonna stick him out front to tank wounds.

Any opinion on whether or not the single Icarus Cannon will be enough to deal with Flyers? Or which Knight might serve the list better? I'm inclined toward the cheaper Errant in the effort of not sinking so many points into a single unit.

Not a big fan of gauntlet on the Knight especially if you are going to use him for other LoW. Errant over the Crusader, way to many points in it. I love Paladins over any other knight. 2 shot ordanance.

Yeah, the Crusader also has the Battle Cannon, which seems great, but he's also super expensive. So, maybe a Paladin w/Rapid Fire Battle Cannon, Chainsword, Icarus Gun? Is the Reaper Chainsword generally sufficient in place of the Gauntlet?

Gauntlet is a gimmick plus it strikes at intiative 1. So yes.

My opinion:

first of all you cant get a CoF CAD, only the company of the great wolf deatchment so you need 2 elites to get the relics of the great wolf

"RELICS OF THE GREAT WOLF
Any character that is part of a Detachment or Formation presented in this book that can
select Relics of the Fang cannot select from those listed in Codex: Space Wolves, but can
instead select from Relics of the Great Wolf, presented in their own section, following, at
the points costs shown."

Land speeders are not point efficient cause they die too easily. Better bring 2 pods with melta grey hunters and a pod with terminators or power armoured WG with combi plasmas and ulrick.

Lonewolf is correct on the CAD/CotGW issue. If you want to go CAD, you can't use the relics from "Champions of Fenris" - you have to use Detachments or Formations from CoF.

I'm not wild about Landspeeders, but YMMV. I'd definitely dump the Rhinos for Drop Pods, though. Rhinos will get popped by almost any army before they get your unit close. Drop Pod'ing your units into the enemy's backfield can keep some fire off the 'Speeders, if you go with 'Speeders. Target the opponent units that are the biggest danger to the 'Speeders. If you go Pods, you probably want to find a way to shift points to run 3, so you're bringing the 2 in on Turn 1. You can buy a Pod for your Long Fangs, for example, and drop it in empty to contest objectives and shoot stuff...

If you go CotGW, consider using Wolf Guard instead of Blood Claws and Grey Hunters - all WG get the +1 WS from CotGW, they all have 2 Attacks, and they're not much more expensive than Grey Hunters.

Also, Ulrik shines best on a full unit of Blood Claws. He helps on a unit of 9, but he's pricey for the benefits. You could save points by putting a Rune Priest (even an ML2 with a Psychic Hood) in that unit, and then you've got Psyker options as well as extra protection from enemy Psykers.

Also, consider running Lascannon Long Fangs rather than Missile Launchers. 2-3 Lascannons and 1 Missile Launcher is my preferred build... 2 Lascannons and a Krak Missile are more likely to pop or disable enemy mech than 4 Krak Missiles, and Split Fire means you can fire the Lascannons at light armor and still fire a Frag Missile at an Infantry unit, if you want/need to.
