Lias infiltrates the three tactical marine squads and himself. Using his re-rolling reserves rule to manipulate the legion drops as needed. He has a locator beacon as well, which is handy. According to Forgeworld, Raptors now get shrouding 1st turn and +1 to night fight in addition to their rendering bolters, rather then scout and stealth.

I want to run a small marine army that plays fast, can compete with normal lists & has a punch. I hope this fits that?

Raptors CAD

Lias Issodon 175pts

5 Legion of the Damned (Multi Melta, Meltagun, Combi Grav Gun) 155pts

That's a lot of Damned Legionnaires! The army looks like it would be fun, though I think it lacks mobility (even with the LoD drops) and AA. I wonder if it would be worth it to get some scouts with Land Speeder Storm and maybe a Storm Talon for AA.

Of course this would break the "All-Infantry" theme, but I think it would give a little more flexibility to your list.

Good luck!

Hordes will be a problem. Always love a LotD army though.

Is it viable to not run proper AA these days? I was kind of hoping Lias with his -1 to enemy reserves would mess with opponents and if really needed, spray and pray with Grav! Might not be the best plan admittedly..

Vs Hordes, bolters and lotd seem like they might be handy in cc, with 2 attacks base and a 3++, they can tie something down. Although I guess it depends on the horde, lots of normal attacks kill them just like marines.

I was considering whether Grav guns would be better then plasma in the infiltrating tactical squads? The plasma matches the range profile of the squad better, but grav puts out more shots. With the option of heavy one rendering bolters due to raptor tactics, once infiltrated, these squads won't want to move too much. I could also drop the melta bombs and use the spare points to add two more combi grav guns to the tactical squads.

I don't really want to have to infiltrate within 18 inches of units though as these guys will want to be in cover somewhere in the midfield, but on the other hand, going all grav does make them pretty tasty.

Heavy plasma on the Legionnaires can be quite effective too - str7 AP 2 blast that ignore cover on relentless models is no joke and can work against all kinds of Infantry.

AA is not necessary you're right, I just love the marines' flyers and ability to score late game while overing.

I guess you could playtest for some games to see if plasma or gravgun is the way to go on the Tacticals.

First of all, I think this could be a really fun list to play, and is creative in it's approach. However, I think there are a few things to try and maximize here, like the rending bolters, and Lias' ability to infiltrate specific units of his choosing (thanks to his fixed warlord trait). Technically, Centurions are infantry, no? So I'd load up a squad of 3 with grav cannon & amp, and join him to them (he will become "slow and purposeful" so his salvo bolter will be letting off 4 shots a turn with special ammo!) - infiltrated/scouted in a good position, and in cover. I'd then take a full detachment of LotD like you have (5 squads) and then take as many bolter-wielding scouts as you can in your CAD. Melta that ignores cover is amazing, and you'll need that for heavily armored lists; I'd get a combi-melta on the sgt too instead of grav - I know they're relentless, but I'd rather bank on that pen result when up against a Knight or something, rather than a small chance of some lucky 6's. Also, since the LotD are so darn tough to take down, they often get bogged down in cc, so a power fist on the sgt. may do you some good if you've got some points leftover...

The trick is going to be surviving turn 1, while setting up the field for your LotD to do work turn 2.

Hope that helps!

Something like this:

Lias Issodon *joins dev cents
Centurion Devs (3) - grav cannon & amp, hurricane bolters *infiltrate/scouts
Scout Squad (10) - bolters, melta bombs
Scout Squad (10) - bolters, melta bombs
Scout Squad (10) - bolters, melta bombs
Scout Squad (10) - bolters, melta bombs
Scout Squad (10) - bolters, melta bombs

LotD (5) - melta, multimelta, combi-melta, power fist
LotD (5) - melta, multimelta, combi-melta
LotD (5) - melta, multimelta, combi-melta
LotD (5) - melta, multimelta, combi-melta

Cheers! Although I don't think if you fire the 4 shots, you get to use the special ammo, unless I'm wrong on that one. I have the marines painted, but scouts are really good and make the tacs look a bit lacklustre for their points now. Might slowly phase them in as I have a pretty cool scout conversion in mind.

Not a big fan of the centurion modals, if I can think of a good conversion though..

I have decided to definitely fit in a bare bones inquisitor with 3 servo skulls, to deny others playing havoc with my own deployment options through scout/infiltrate! 34 point insurance policy and the servo skulls might be handy for the lotd deep striking, the actual inquisitor can wait in reserves and hide out in the back when he comes on.

The choice between combi grav or melta is a tough one I'm finding, grav makes them a bit more flexible in target choices on the drop, but obviously less effective vs armour. I'm slightly leaning in favour of the extra flexibility rather then specialisation, but switching out at least a few combi gravs for melta seems sensible.

@JP, ty, yeah adding some plasma for specialising TEQ/Meq killing squads is an idea! 165 pts for example gets you 5 lotd-plasma cannon, plasma gun, combi grav and ignore cover. I could go half and half with the lotd, make some squads plasma/grav ballers, and some all melta.
