So I've started a Mechanicum army & I'm super stoked to field it soon.
In January I have a huge campaign game to attend however to make it to 5k, I would need to ally in my 3 knights- which brings me on to my question.

If I am fielding an Age of Darkness CAD with my Mechanicum, how do I go about fitting in 3 knights as well? ( Lancer, Paladin & Acheron)

The list I had written is something like this;

Is there a way for me to do this legally? ( Points may be off, this is a rough idea of what I have / what I want to bring. maybe I'll have to make changes when i actually write it up.

I think so. Book 4 has the knight army list. This can be run in an allied detachment,

So you can take a HQ knight a troop knight and one other knight.

It's problematical - the list in book four is a primary detachment list and the household rank thing only comes into effect when using that force org chart and there isn't anything to say you can use them as an allied force as far as i can see

The problem comes from the household rank rule giving them a place in the household force org chart - without that they have no unit type designation and can't be used as plain 'allies'.
This puts them into your LOW slot you want the ordinatus in and even then, only two engines of 8HP or less can be taken in a single LOW slot.
Further problems then come from the LOW minimum army points cost mechanic if you have an ordinatus and three knights..

The 'onslaught' force org chart helps somewhat but only has two LOW slots, no fortifications and other disadvantages too.
You can't use the 'leviathan' chart either because then you dont have enough slots for your mechanicum models.

The ordinatus ulator is 1075pts so your army needs to be 4300pts in all (so 3225 of other stuff) to get the sonic destructor in.

The most thallax can cost in 3 man cohorts is 215, satarael 355, triaros 160, myrmidon secutors 390, myrmidon destructors 415, krios veators 420, thanatar-calix 346, paladin 415, lancer 420, acheron 435, knightly upgrades 85.
So if you tank up with all the most expensive options available you have 3911pts of stuff apart from the ordinatus.
That is preposterous however (420pts for 2 krios venators?!?) and the points costs may be a bit touch-and-go when your actual points are totted up.
