I have trouble with one of my pots of paint shrinking on the tips of my models and I have to go back and recover 2 or 3 times just the tips(it looks covered until it drys). And its a pot of abaddon black no less. At first I thought it was where I would touch while painting but it happens in spots I don't think I would touch and I have not had any other trouble but with this one pot. Anyone shed some light on what it could be? Thanks

A new day, a new time zone.

What's the material of the model this is occuring on? If there's mold release or something on that part of the model, it could be repeling the paint.

Or is it only the black that does that, and other colors cover it just fine?

Seems to be just the black been painting choas stuff with lots of points/spike bloodletters D princes spawn and the likes and it only seems like the black always shows the primer on tips of horns and things when dried.......

You might get more responses in the painting section of the forum. I personally haven't run into this.

Are you sure it's shrinking that's causing the problem and not you accidentally rubbing the paint off?

Paint shrinks as it dries.... never have I seen it being a cause of what you're describing. Far more often paint gets touched and rubbed off before it's had a chance to properly cure.

This could very well be it. I try to be mindful of it so I could rule that out but it get concentrating on what I'm painting and it could happen. I just notice it a lot with that black pot and was wondering if it could be the paint but most likly user error

Ok, when you get a colour on how you like it, grab a pot of acrylic varnish or even the GW Lahmian medium and put that on after it dries. It'll protect from your fingers.

You can use enamel artist varnish but it will take forever and pick up fluff.

Some paints do tend to rub off easier than others.

Try blutacking a model to the top of a paint tin or medicine bottle so that you can paint it without touching it *at all* and see if it still happens.

You can wash the model in warm soapy water (I use liquid dish soap) before priming it to get off any release agents from the casting process then avoid touching it before priming it and painting it as oils off your hands can get on the model and make it hard for paint to stick.

Aside from the just make sure you mix your paints good and proper before painting.

See how that goes, if you still have problems it's very unlikely but maybe you have a bad pot.
