I've seen a few articles mentioning this stuff as like a spray-on matte varnish, but a quick Google shopping search showed prices ranging from £4 to £40 - I've never used this stuff before, anyone familiar with it and any advice?

I don't know what is available in the uk, but I like army painters matt spray. It's $10 at my local hobby shop. testors model master dull coat is also good. It's $7 but the can is tiny.

Remember thin coats and to apply only when the humidity is low or it will be cloudy.

I use testors dullcote, Im not sure of how much it runs, but I know that Ive seen it around 5 bucks. like someone above mentioned make sure you know what the weather/humidity is gonna be like that day and use thin coats. If you spray to much of that stuff it can ruin your paint job.

Thanks guys, got some cheap £4 stuff in the end and used that, seems to have done the trick and the new board is no longer shedding flock everywhere!

Wrote a whole screed on different matt varnishes and you were talking about sealants!

Honestly, cheapest stuff to stop flock shedding is PVA (also called White Glue) mixed 1:10 with water and sprayed on the flock, model tree or whatever. Spray it until the model is white with it - it will dry clear! It doesn't add shine to the model, even on exposed plastic bits.

I have gameboards that still haven't lost flock after 15 years.

Go for the "industrial" stuff from builders' yards or B&Q - £7-8 for a litre that you can thin down to literally buckets of sealant. The bottles you get from art shops are already watered down, making them both expensive and useless.

For glueing terrain or flock, I'd stay with wood glue - it's stronger and waterproof., and it doesn't need air to dry like PVA.
