With the pre-release coming up soon, I wanted to try out a few build ideas.
The first is as follows:
Victory II with the Warlord Title
Admiral Motti
Defense Liaison
Enhanced Armament
Victory I
Enhanced Armament
Darth Vader
TIE Advanced
Major Ryhmer
TIE Bomber
Sootnir Fel
TIE Interceptor
The Second List Idea is
Victory II with Warlord Title
Admiral Motti
Enhanced Armament
Victory I x2
Defense Liaison
Enhanced Armament
I Have a pair of Starter sets, and I and hoping to purchase the other items asap. Any thoughts?

You're a little short on the anti-fighter area, but I guess Fel + Vader + TIE Adv + TIE Int should be enough to hold off enemy fighters and bombers. I personally don't care for the Vic I as a main unit as it is a bit slow for using the black die. I see it as more of a close/rear escort for the Vic II (and the ISD once that's released). I tend to prefer bringing a Gladiator with the Vic-II, mostly because of it's speed and ability to scare away enemy CR-90s away from objectives (and take some as well). Also, Demolisher title is awesome.
I guess it's up to you. The first list would be good in more "shooty" type scenarios while the second would be better for keeping enemy ships away from objectives.
Edit: Actually, scratch that last bit. Either fleet would work, but only for the "shooty" missions. It will depend if you're more interested in surviving for the duration of the match (the second choice) or killing ships with fighter support. I have the feeling that the second list is a little more vulnerable, especially to bombers. I'd still go for replacing the Vic-I(s) with Glad-II(s) to get better movement (for the scenarios based on taking objectives) and anti-fighter support.

Would one Gladiator and some fighters be a better option then? Apparently a lot of the meta in our local area is not overly strong on fighters.

The lack of fighters thing is just a result of the GenCon tournament being won by a 3 Victory Star Destroyer fleet. However, many people (especially on the FFG forums) claim to have beaten similar fleets before outside of the tournaments. There are two current opinions on fighters and the meta:
1)
No Fighters beats Some Fighters
Some Fighters beats Many Fighters
Many Fighters beats No Fighters
2)
Everything is based on skill, there is no meta
This seems to be an even split among Armada players. I for one believe in the no meta idea (mostly because of my theory on the roles of each ship, might post it today on both forums).
The best suggestion I can make is that the fleet you build can be used adequately in most of the Scenarios.

If your meta is "no/few fighters"...then bring lots.
4 or 5 fighters shooting at a ship can give you as much damage as a VSD. It may be only 1 hit...but your opponent will not be using tokens to counter it.,,and if he does, that leaves him wide open for your big guns to shred him.
Especially if you get the mission where you get a token for each damage done on rear arc. 5 fighters each scoring 1 hit gives you points equal to killing a VSD.
Otherwise park them in front of his ship so he has to land on them when he moves...allowing you to reposition them back on his front (or rear if your going for that mission).

Demolisher is very good, but you have to be careful with it. It's easy to commit it too early with its move then shoot ability. Then it gets caught out of place and gets shot up. Gladiators aren't durable. I would still say its well worthwhile to include on though.

I just played our Gathering. I would advise against the many fighters, I tried that and got curb stomped. Of course, I'm not a great player either.
It looks like anyone bringing Imperials is likely to do 2 Gladiators (with Demolisher title and Assault Missiles) and a Victory, with the rest in named pilots/ties.
We only had one Rebel player, they played heavy ships with few squadrons as well, which caught me off guard.

At 300 points, I prefer an all ship list for Rebels. Having four or five activations per turn is awesome, especially against a two ship list. If you maneuver well, that's three activations in a row of shooting (two at the end of the turn and then the beginning of the next turn).
When it gets bumped up to 400 points, I'll probably start including fighters.

Fleets we saw at ours:
3 x Victory-I Destroyers with Admiral Motti.
This won the event. The durability and the sheer number of batteries was amazing. A few TIE fighters were included for defence
2 x Victory-2 Destroyers with Admiral Tarkin and Gunnery Teams
This came second. The match between these two was incredibly bloody and could have gone either way.
1 x Assault Frigate (with the carrier title), 1 x Nebulon (with the carrier title), massed elite fighters and Garm Bel Iblis
The better of the two rebel players. Well-handled, but he complained that needing to pull squadron orders all the time left him unable to do engineering commands, which made the capital ships vulnerable to direct battery attack.
1 x Assault frigate, 1 x Nebulon escort, 2 x Corvettes (Can't recall the commander). No fighters
The last ranking player. Came unstuck from fighter attack a few times and got hit by rams quite a bit.
At another local event, one player apparently did damn well with a pack of CR90 corvettes and Mon Mothma

I've heard that stores are to send their orders sometime next week, so the rumor is November release.
