I just picked up my 3rd whirlwind... whats everyones view on running all 3 vs a blob guard army...

Main reason i picked up a 3rd was it was only 12 bucks and i read online "Three Whirlwinds in a squad grant all of its missiles Pinning and Shred. Congrats, you're now a better Wyvern."

Thoughts?

Ask yourself if your list would be able to handle the exact opposite of that guard army. If those 3 whirlwinds would gimp you against armor spam or you have no answer to flyers, you're probably tailoring which is pretty common against a single opponent.

Don't be that guy who alters his list against an opponent. I just played a game with my guard against a dude whose whole army morphed (meltas became flamers, grav cannons became heavy bolters, his whole anti air formation became a triple whirlwind formation) and it was zero fun.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Three whirlwinds is pretty cheap. Putting them in some army with melta is just fine. I've worked in two or three whirlwinds into some of my BA lists just for the ignore cover.

Whirlwinds are pretty darn effective against Imperial Guard- particularly against Blob Guard. That being said, if you are bringing them just because you *know* it will punch a little bit higher against that army than it normally would- then that's a little lame.

I'm not gonna be "that guy" but this is a 2 person escalation league, my cousin and I And in our 500 point game he brought a Valkyrie against me so i figured at 750 i'd return some of the favor.
