I am putting together some lists for an upcoming escalation league and I had some ideas for transports.

Everything is in an Allied detachment

10 man Squad w/ Razorback taken as a dedicated transport, combat squads into 2, 5 man units, take a Drop Pod as a fast attack choice, deploy one squad in each vehicle.

I'm thinking this works since combat squads happen before deployment effectively splitting them into two independent units before they hit the board, one of which then deploys inside the drop pod.

Thoughts?

Hmm this is an interesting take I haven't seen before. Can someone quote the full rules on combat squads for us? If it says before the game begins, then I see no reason they should not. They are treated as two squads later on anyways, being able to individually jump into a nearby transport like a normal unit.

No real need for the whole thing, here's the relevant bit:
You must decide which units are splitting into combat squads, and which models go into each combat squad, immediately before determining your Warlord Traits. A unit split into combat squads therefore is now two separate units for all game purposes,
Whilst looking that up, I noticed that GW have been copy-pasting that rule for so long, it still has a reference to the 6th edition limit on how many units you could put in reserve

Tactically, I'm not sure on the use of the Razorback - if you've plumped the special and combi into the drop pod, that leaves either a heavy or 5 basic guys to make use of. If you've taken a heavy, they're better off outside plinking away, so it's only of use as a taxi for the basic chaps.

Zeragrin: yes that is perfectly legal and may come in handy with a melta/combi melta alpha strike unit against a back-field tank.

This will, of course, wind up as a suicide squad, but then your razorback half can sprint forward to a mid-field objective and set up for defence/heavy support(concept, not the game term).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
