Hello,
After being new to 40k i think i have finally assembled my ork force. What tactics or builds would you do with these units. I have:
- 15 tankbustas
- 15 lootas
- 2 battlewagons
- trukk
- 3 meganobs
- 7 bikes
- warboss on a bike
- 2 mek guns
- 3 deffkoptas
- 60 shoota or choppa boyz
Missing the painboy.
What tactics to run with this stuff or what else am i missing? Thanks.

Check out the "Council of the Waaagh" thread down below in the list. They have plenty of build bouncing around. Also check lists people have posted.
TBH: A lot of people will say a lot of things and a lot of people will only mention a couple units. It will turn into a 40k-hate thread and Ork Player- Misery fest. I say, build what you want and have fun with it. If you are playing 40k to have fun and not to be competitive, that is the best build.
Either Way:
-Tankbustas are one of your only reliable AT, plus they are solid if no tanks are present.
- Large mobs of boys is rough with loss of Mob rule, be careful of morale.
- Orkz are shootier than choppy, (tankbustaz, lootaz, mek gunz, shootas) so you'll shoot a lot of things dead most of the time.
-Shoot the choppy thingz, chop the shooty thingz

If I was running a non competitive but fairly reasonable list with what you have then I would do the following
Ork Horde Detachment
HQ
- Warboss, bike, PK, lucky stikk, cybork, BP (goes with bikers)
- Painboy (add to unit of boyz)
- Painboy (add to unit of boyz)
Elite
- 15 Tankbustas (put them in a battlewagon and move up while hugging cover whenever possible, pop vehicles, MCs, MEQs, flyers, etc)
- 3 Meganobz with trukk (1 with killsaws, trukk has rokkit and ram). Either Manz missile into the enemy's face or act as the hammer blow to what your boyz tie up into close combat)
Troops
-29 Boyz with shootas + 1 Nob with PK, BP
-29 Boyz with shootas + 1 Nob with PK, BP
-10 Gretchen (have them hide and grab backfield objectives or screen for your lootas if needed.
Fast Attack
- 2 Deffkoptas with TL rokkits (outflank to hit the rear armor of the enemy, draw fire, soak up overwatch)
- 1 Deffkopta with TL Rokkits (outflank)
- 6 Bikers + 1 Nob biker with PK (Rides with the Warboss, don't throw them out in front, go down the flanks and pick off targets of opportunity, help provide the hammer blow to combats your boyz get stuck into).
Heavy Support
- Battlewagon with rokkit and ram
- Battlewagon with rokkit and ram
- 15 Lootas (put in a battlewagon, park in ruins as a bunker, dakka dakka dakka)
This should be very close to 1850 and you can tweak the gear as needed to add whatever equipment you think is needed. This is by no means going to win tournaments but it seems good enough for a fun list to play in pick up games and isn't terribly bad (foot boyz are still meh but if you give them painboyz then they aren't horrible). Pro Tip: You can make painboyz from the Nobz box and have extra bodies for Nobz, Flash Gitz, Big Meks, Weirdboyz, etc.

The above list looks pretty good to me. If you took out one painboy you could take it all jn the great waaagh detachment to try to deepstrike it as well if you want. It could be fun if nothing else. I personally enjoy it anyway. The models you have definitely are not bad. As said above just have fun with it. Try proxying some other units that you think look cool and try to make them work. There are ways to make most thing useful in our book especially for friendly games.

My Armies:
Orks about 15000-16000 mostly unpainted but slowly being worked on
Militarum Tempestus about 2000 points just built
Inquisition about 2000 points unpainted
Officio Assassinorum 570 unpainted
I dont paint quickly |

You have a couple of options. You could go for a blitz brigade by adding 3 more battlewagons. Could take the bully boyz formation by having 15 meganobz and 3 trukks. Could go for more bikers, and run the biker warboss as zhadsnark (forge world named biker boss who makes bikes troops). Could also add more tankbustas in trukks or battlewagons.
That being said what you have isn't a bad setup but for Orks its an uphill battle in the highly competitive side of tournament 40k. In your standard pick up game what you have will do just fine and would be very fun to play as and play against (ive ran a similar setup many times for casual games). Most importantly though is player skill as Orks aren't a faceroll army despite the Ork fluff being to the contrary. Get some experience and find what tactics and units you prefer and go from there. A tournament Ork list can still fail catastrophically if misplayed.
