Am I missing something, or are we thought to buy hordes of very expensive and ugly Sisters of Battle standard troops modeled in the 80-90s?
My wife loves the army concept but her artistic side is turned off my the horrid faces the sisters have. Are there some more anime looking cute battle chicks to look at someplace else?

I've never had a problem with the old models (apart from the weight of carrying all that metal).
They are meant to be soldiers not supermodels so the faces are not an issue for me...but "horrid" is not a description I recognise from my SoB army.
The day they become "cute battle chicks" is the day I stop gaming them!
However if that's your bag then I think if you search on Dakka you may find the previous discussions on cheesecake models for SoB and other women in the 40k universe.

When you say she "loves the army concept," what exactly does that mean? The army concept is a bunch of religious zealots trained from an early age to enforce the dictates of a monolithic, monotheistic institution. The only reason the Sisters are women is to exploit a millenia old loophole. They're uncompromising, battle-hardened, vaguely feminine warriors so the minis (though dated) pretty much depict them as they should be.
If she wants "more anime looking cute battle chicks," the Tau are over there ------→

That's not the army concept of Sisters at all.
That said, we're still waiting - we had a handful of new models in '03, but otherwise it's still the '97 stock.

It's not the lore, but the concept that was used to design the army. "Hey, let's do an all female army. How can we explain that they're all female?" and they went on from there.
On topic: Yeah. Just wait for the TGG2 by Raging Heroes to come out. I kickstarted them for pretty much anything Infantry I'm gonna need for a SoB army. All I'm gonna use from GW will be the tanks.
And seriously - you can't honestly argue that the pure quality of the SoB models is in any way acceptable in this day and age, especially at THAT price point. Just look at the level of detail other minis have - including current GW lines.

For metal models, especially ones from 15+ years ago, the Sisters of Battle models are really good. I don't quite get what the complaints about the face are - they are as good as you can paint them. The pictures of the models painted on the GW website have gone overboard on the 'makeup' (eyeliner, blush, lipstick etc), which makes the faces look bad imo. And if you're that concerned about the faces plenty of them have gas masks/helmets on anyway.
Besides, they hardly look out of place next to the Imperial Guard or Space Marine faces. Why are the male models allowed to have 'average' looking faces, but female faces have to look 'cute' (to use the OP's word)?
And finally, Raging Heroes is nothing like the concept of the Adepta Sororitas. The visual design is completely different, to the point where you may as well just call them count-as Space Marines since they're clearly not Sisters of Battle.

The Battle Sisters have very manly faces. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but you can't escape the fact either - and as a woman with a very manly face, I can totally understand why some people wouldn't want that.
The prices we're charged for them are insane - none of the other old metal models that are still in production cost as much.

Apparently in the same place with the Tzeentch Daemonkin codex: totally up in the air and sustained only by hopes and dreams.
For now, get third-party miniatures. GW won't be updating SoB any time soon.

Possibly. I took the high road when defining the word concept.
On topic: Yeah. Just wait for the TGG2 by Raging Heroes to come out. I kickstarted them for pretty much anything Infantry I'm gonna need for a SoB army. All I'm gonna use from GW will be the tanks.
I think a lot of the concept renders of the TGG2 minis are beautiful in their own way, but we'll see if they actually live up to expectations when the resin hits the mold. I have my doubts.
And seriously - you can't honestly argue that the pure quality of the SoB models is in any way acceptable in this day and age, especially at THAT price point. Just look at the level of detail other minis have - including current GW lines.
I'm biased since I like metal minis, but the level of detail still holds up, IMO. Their faces are not delicate, but I don't believe they were ever intended to be. I would imagine a youth spent at the Schola Progenium involved many scars, broken bones, and little time for mascara and lip gloss.
BTW, I would be willing to bet that had the OP posted as himself rather than on behalf of his wife, he would have been excoriated for even suggesting such a desire for "anime looking cute battle chicks."

Sadly from GW yes this is your option. There are some other options out there at varying levels of silly oversexualiztion, though. Their faces are not that inspired. I built a sister's army and then sold it off because I got tired of the fact that aside from a couple exceptions, most units were built from models that looked exactly the same, were a pain to try to pose and boring as all get out to paint because they were so much the same.
Good luck finding decent options for them that don't look like they were sculpted by a very talented 14 year old sculptor. While the raging heroes models are very detailed and cast, they turn the stoic sisters into wanton space whores. Yeah. Perfect fit.

These models are well sculpted but largely cheesecake as hell and don't have much in the way of a coherent army.
Plastic sisters are up there with a plastic Thunderhawk and a good Chaos Marines codex for things people want that we're not getting soon, if at all.

There's several individual sculpts from that line I like, but rather a number that I don't.
Mostly, there's the Chalice Knight, a Canoness model, and a couple that would work *really well* as a Living Saint or Celestine stand-in but, overall, I think RH has watched Planet Terror or Once Upon A Time in Mexico one too many times.

It just struck me that you could use the RH line as a "Age of Apostasy" Sisters army... if you wanted to take Vandire's excesses to the extreme as a theme.
