This is actually big news where I live because my wife is AD Coast Guard in this sector and they have crews going round the clock looking for survivors of the Hurricane and specifically from this cargo ship, I believe I read somewhere that if the ship went down with all hands then this would be the worst Hurricane related maritime disaster in 40 years.

My biggest question is why these guys thought it would be a good idea to sail into a Cat 4 Hurricane?

Yeah, that would be pretty bad. Its not we don't have tons of advance warnings today either.
