Hi there,
I am primarily a Dark Angel/IG player, but I feel the overwhelming urge to start a chaos marine army; heresy I know but in my defence my main source of inspiration is the 2nd ed style of Chaos list.
Maybe that's not the best arguement, but after seeing an original noise marine with guitar the idea has been revolving around in my head. Anyways, on to the nitty gritty, I aim to create a Slaanesh and Nurgle themed army (sex and disease) and have thus far written up a 1500 (ish) list, which is as follows:
Chaos Lord-mark of Slaanesh (15) Plasma Pistol Power Weapon (30)-110
Chaos Cultists-25 extra, mark of Slaanesh x35-185
Noise Marines-10 extra(170) 13x Sonic Blaster (39) Blastmaster, Doom Siren-349
Chaos Bikers-1 extra, 2x melta, gift of mutation, melta bombs, mark of Nurgle x4-249
Land Raider-dirge caster-235
Plague Marines-2 extra (cos power of 7 y'all) 2x plasma, power axe melta bombs, gift of mutation-228
Hellbrute(really wanted a dreadnought but boo they only exist in IA, will have to be a conversion effort)- plasma cannon thunderhammer-120
Vindicator-120
Should be 1506 as long as my maths is on point
Any thoughts etc. from veteran Chaos players would be appreciated, but the emphasis is on a fluffy kind of army

I'm a big fan of Slaanesh CSM and Daemons but don't know too much about Nurgle. I'm not sure how competitive you're trying to be but what I would say is whilst Gift of Mutation adds to the, in my opinion, enjoyable randomness of chaos (every game is different) it does tend to be a bit rubbish. I would also say that having a Blastmaster and Sonic Blasters in the same Squad isn't really worth it as they operate at different ranges (You could always go for a 5 man Noise Marine Squad with a BM and the other 10 Noise Marines could be a second squad, which would give you another troop choice I find 1 troop choice per 500pts is a decent level). Also if you're running Cultists and a Helbrute it's worth looking at the Helcult formation (I wouldn't say necessarily take it but it has some fun game mechanics to it depending on how strong you want your army to be).

Hope this helps and if you or anyone else think I'm off the mark just let me know (I'm still pretty newish to 40k).

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

first off, i have to say that you are in the wrong thread, you need to go do this in the army lists section. now onto your list, i will break them down and give criticism and alternatives. so lets begin:

chaos lords are the best chance you have of having an hq thats competitive, that and a sorcerer (must have). ok so the power sword is better off being used to cut real vegetables than to be used in game you are better off with the lighting claws or a good daemon weapon. put him on a bike and wreck face. oh and the plasma pistol is a joke you are better off trying to kill someone with marshamllows, keep him with a bolt pistol, and give him melta bombs.

cultists are good for holding objectives, the minute they take some damage they die and leave the table, so what i would do is spam squads of 10 and not bother with the mark of slaanesh or anything, keep them base 50pts

noise marines are terrible if you combine sonic and blast together, instead take msu of them with one blastmaster. or a squad of 10 with two blastmaster. and no doom siren, have the champion take melta bombs and thats it

love your bikers enough said, try to just switch to slaanesh and out the lord in there

ok so plague marines are good in multiples, take 2x5 of them or 2x7 whatever, just please give them meltas, plasma has become as useful as having glasses when you are blind, take the melta x2 and combi melta and melta bombs, throw everything else. PUT THEM IN RHINOS PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHAOS

landraider... enough said its awesome put something inside or dont bring it all

vindicator... my favourite keep it get more make loving sex to them

with the helbrute i recomend the pfist and the powescourge and you will be good try to get the formation

Thanks for the advice, will move the thread over to the army builder whatsit, don't know how to do that properly so will just start the thread anew, the list isn't a competitive one and would be more likely than not to be used in killpoints missions because that's mainly what we play at my club and if it was changed I can always swap into smaller unit sizes

First: +1 for the STD army.

Second: Have you considered a second Chaos lord of nurgle on bike? It's a T6 beast that goes well with your bikers.

Your equipment for the Slaaneshi chaos lord seems a little lackluster... I would go for something giving him an invuln save (Sigil of corruption?) and a pair of lightning claws or claw and fist.
