I recently started A Black Templars army with A bunch of models I had around and have slowly been picking up more where I can,but
I'm pretty at a loss for what I should be aiming for in terms of army composition.I currently have a bunch of crusader squads, some tacticals, some rhinos/LRS/A storm talon/Some devastators/Emp champs and plenty of models and bits to make assault squads/Vanguard/honor guard.I play pretty casually but would like to make my army semi-
competitive at least in terms of playing with friends.Mainly I'm looking for what kind of formations I should be aiming to run and which models I should aim to get to make a more well rounded force.

Well seeing what you have only brings one formation to mind, that being the infamous skyhammer, but I recommend the two stormtalons and one storm raven one.

Storm Wing. And yes, fighter support is a nice way to provide air cover and heavy weapons without 'hanging back' in a distinctly unrighteous fashion.

If you want to use crusader squads, you're not using battle company/gladius type formations. You're primarily looking to get up close and personal and stab some dudes repeatedly upside the head (In the Emperor's Name, naturally).

Whilst you can footslog it, Land Raider Crusaders are a better bet. Whilst you can take them in a dedicated transport, though, the Land Raider formation is immune to getting stunned or immobilized - which means that short of blowing up the land raiders (not easy!) your opponent can't stop them delivering a bunch of angy zealot nutters into their front lines.

This also leaves open the option for footslogging vanguard veterans - which for black templars includes the badass sword brethren models.
