This is a bad release.

Talvath - a ship with the same ability as Admiral Gorkon, where you are just as safe taking an evade.

Telek R'Mor - He is alright for 2 points, but he is really best suited for the Vo. Otherwise you have to put at least 5 points into a science vessel to get a scan.

Jarok - another one, with a crappie ability. He is an admiral, we don't know how much he adds but Mendak is the same cost and Hiren is cheaper.

Secret Research - 5pts to add scan to an action bar and only usable on a science vessel, WTF! 10 points on everything else. The only possible use I see for this is to put MU Tomolak on the Scimitar and give him a Fleet Captain so it's free. Other than that, CRAP!

Warp Core Ejection - WASTE OF PAPER, just take the action on the core breach. I can count on one hand the number of times i have seen someone get more than one core breach on a single ship.

Test Cylinder - Not bad for 3 points because it is "at any range".

Temporal Displacement - So with Varel we have two way to cancel attacks against a science vessel.

Advanced Scanning - Umm, WTF!. So for 5 pts we can have two scan tokens for a ship with 1 attack :what: 10 points for any other ship.

Signal Amplifier - for another 5 pts we can use one of those scan tokens to get 3 attacks, CRAP!

Graviton Field Generator - The first part is pointless, but the second has some use. There may be a time that you want 2 extra shields, it doesn't say you loose them at the end of the turn. However 5 points is a bit much.

As a whole I give this pack a "D". Very little synergy and just about everything is over priced.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

I really do try to look for the silver lining in these packs, but it is starting to get to me. The Federation now have 4 good options to boost smaller ships primary weapons (Tactical Stations, Type 8 Phasers, Dual Phaser Banks, and Upgraded Phasers). They also have 3 ways to add shields to their ships (Systems Upgrade, Immersion Shielding, and Unimatrix Shielding). Now the Unimatrix Shielding is on the pricey side, but consider for the same price the Romulan Graviton Field Generator costs and action and requires a green maneuver. Feds get their 2 shields right off the bat for 5 points.

It's also a little annoying that Feds are getting a crew to disable to get a BS for 4 points, 7 of 9. No action required just disable, so you can still perform another action. Where as the Klingons are paying 5 points to DISCARD Kornan in order to take a TL and another Action bar action, Romulans are paying 5 points to put scan on a science vessel, and 10 on everything else. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

You know what it is don't you? Wizkids are trying to get Romulan players to build custom science vessel cross faction micro dreadnoughts.

No one expects the 50 point Talvath/Apnex dreadnought combo!!!

LMAO danp164... That's great.

I have to agree with Mr. Baldrick though... the Scan cards are nerfed almost immediately by being double the cost for any ship besides a Science vessel. Jarok's ability seems pretty cool in my opinion, simply because it lets you strip away some one's target locks (LOVE doing that to some one running Voyager with transphasic torpedoes)

I would be extremely pleased if the RIS Vo was a Science vessel instead of a Scout Vessel, but alas, it is not so; Because loading Donatra and the Test cylinder would be amazing (First round, Test Cylinder your target. Second round, Same. 3rd CLoak, then spend the rest of the game moving Donatra around granting her +1 attack and Double evading with 6 dice in defense... MAWAHAHAH)

I think I can do it

Apnex
Picard 8
Section 31
Tom Parris
Torres (Tech slot + Weapon Slot)
Disrupter Beams
Temporal Displacement
Varel
Advanced Scanning

8 Defense dice while cloaked 5 Attack secondary with 1 guaranteed crit, section 31 to get either T-Lock or BS once varel and temporal displacement to attack cancel and the ability to scan...

Not my best work but its coming up to half 11....

... come to think of it you could cut 2 points off by downgrading to generic science vessel.... NO I need sleep damnit.

I shall keep my fingers crossed for the scout as and when they bring one out.

The thing that really gets me is we have to pay 5 points to add scan to a SCIENCE SHIP! What the is up with that, if any ship should have scan it is a science ship

Advanced Scanning should be 0 points on a science vessel and 3-4 on any other ship, like how x-wing has 0 point upgrades for certain ships.

I can tell how upset you are Mr. Baldrick... you don't normally get this fired up. I am trying to see if there is anything from this or the Rotarran that I really want...

I usually do try to keep my cool, but this was very disappointing. I have been waiting for the Talvath for for a long time and I know lots of players have been looking forward to the Rotarran. It is very deflating to see one faction get great upgrades and the others get near worthless cards

Yep... I mean, the Talvath doesn't have a Horrid ability, and there are three cards I see as potentially useful (Jarok, Test Cylinder, and Graviton Field), albeit overpriced. For fun games, the ship can be very useful. We recently had the idea to do an event with something crazy like "no ships with a hull value of more than 3".

I would like the Talvath's ability if it wasn't an action. Gorkon has the same ability. It isn't bad, could come in handy.

Whelp, I see no value in just about anything from this pack. The "good cards" that could have seen use are all Tavath only, or +5 SP (in addition to the out of faction cost, so 11 points for some of them...).

It's pretty obvious after the last couple of previews that there is no one at the design level with any kind of plan or knowledge of the game. We are seeing the same captains and crew but with different abilities, and in many instances, abilities that are on other cards and usually for a cheaper SP or "cheaper" action use.

How do you guarantee a ship will be unpopular? Include a lot of expensive, "this ship only" cards.

What are you supposed to do with this ship? 1 Primary Attack? Three tech upgrades? So... I can't put a secondary weapon on it, I can't put any crew on it... to give it any kind of "teeth", I have to spend 10 SP... on a 14 SP ship, and those 10 SP tech upgrades buy me a [Scan] action and +2 attack or evade dice... FOR 10 POINTS. Congrats on spending 24 points on a ship to give it 3 attack dice! WOOO! This game is about destroying the enemy fleet. It's the one constant victory condition in every mission and every OP since the Dominion war. This ship does absolutely nothing for a fleet to achieve that goal except perhaps to be a third ship and carry Cloaked Mines for you.

Yeah, not a very good ship at all. This is a disturbing trend that I hope we don't see going into the next waves.

On the upside, Wave twenty is Romulan Fighters and the USS Hathaway!

I am trying to keep up beat that with a game that releases new material monthly, that some waves are bound to be fouled up by poor planning. Its a once in a while occurrence, but not the norm... Right?

Looking for at some silver lining here,

38 Scimitar
04 Tomalak (MU)
05 Fleet Captain (one that gives a talent)
00 Secret Research
04 Mendak

30 Terix
03 Telek R'more
02 Additional Phaser Array

Not super competitive but you could build around these two. Scimitar can have some good accuracy without needing to TL and Terix is a decent backup ship with 4 attacks, 6 hull, and 3-7 evade depending if you cloaked or not. You could throw in Donatra on the Talvath or Apnex and still have some points to work with.

Never mind, someone just pointed out to me that you still pay the +5 penalty on the talent.

So , silver lining gone this wave is crap. Ok maybe an over statement, but still a disappointing one.

Looking on the bright side: This ship is the same translucent green that the IRW Vrax was back in wave 17. Makes the ship look better to me. Still probably won't buy it though.

I will pick up one. However we have seen in the past that all it takes is 1 or 2 good upgrades and people will buy multiples. WK could easily have done that for the Rotarran and Talvath, but alas they didn't.

I am Loathe to spend money on something that is absolutely worthless for the most part. The Delta Flyer is very much worth buying a few, but save for completion, the Talvath and the Rotarran aren't necessarily worth it...

I see some possibilities in R'More, Jarok, and Test Cylinder. The rest is blah, but enough to make the pack worth it. In Rotarran Worf is worth it. Martok, Leskit, The Day is Ours, and Alert Status One will have some uses. I usually get one of everything, I am just a big fan of this game, but that will probably change once Xindi stuff comes out. Outside of Romulans and Feds I don't have much interest in stuff from Enterprise. I am curious to see what we get in the Jaxkal next year.

I picked up my Talvath today. On an interesting note, it does not come with an evade or critical hit token. Not that it is a bid deal because I probably have a few hundred off them all ready. I don't know anyone who does use the critical hit tokens for what they are intended for, though I'm sure some do. Around my way we use them as mission tokens sometimes. Though I find it funny that the Talvalth doesn't come with one and the Hideki Fighters do

The Apnex is the other science vessel, it would be worth it to run as that if you like the translucent look. The Vrax is the translucent Valdor that came out a month or two ago. The green on the Talvath looks better than the Vrax. Even though the Talvath is a bit of a disappointment I think it is worth it for the ship, the captain, admiral, and test cylinder.

Oh by the way Jarok is a +2 admiral.

Yeah, it will be a toss up between him an Mendak for the admiral spot. The great part is that both of their abilities can be used to target another ship so you could included both in the same fleet, granted not as admirals, but you get the idea.
