Hey guys,

Looking for a bit of help here. I'm set on writing a story which involves Imprium forces being stranded for whatever reason (loss of navigators or Warp drives, etc) and has very few ways of contacting the Imperium. They've also been technically been lost since pre-heresy, but it seems to be the opinion that (though an extremely rare phenomenon) it is possible to jump through time thousands of years as you jump through the Warp, so I've decided that I'm going to work something like that into the story as well. Now, if you look at a galaxy map (you can google it and find a million different maps of the 40K galaxy), I've ruled out them being lost somewhere on the fringes of the 'Segmentum Tempestus' and the far eastern edge of the 'Segmentum Ultima' (near-ish Ultramar and the Tau) because they'd either be too close to the Imperium to be lost for so long, or they would have been wiped out by one of the major Tyranid Hive Fleets. I also ruled out the 'Segmentum Pacificus' for similar reasons. This leaves me with the extremities of the 'Segmentum Obscurus' (where they could be lost 'North-West' of the Eye of Terror), or somewhere along the extremities of the 'Cantaurus Arm' in 'Segmentum Ultima'. Both of these would allow me to do story lines with different focuses while, in my opinion, still being plausible locations to be lost in.

This leaves me with a few questions:

(1) Do people agree with me in saying that that length (for my purposes, the time jump with be 5,000 - 9,000 years, where the origin of the jump was pre-heresy, during the GC)?

(2) What are your thoughts on the possible locations of being lost? Are the ones I've listed satisfactory (fluff-wise)? Are there better options?

Cheers Guys

9,000 years is a looooong time! But anything is possible I guess! It'll all be plausible or not based on the telling of the story
