Hey guys, I just finished a small unit of FWs for the Tau, they were meant to be a part of a game - the crashed drone is an objective marker, and that FW team has to get to it in order to recover important data that could not be transferred in other ways because the drone was shot down a long time ago.

Painting some parts of the current FW set is really a pain as there's a lot of badly casted elements. I am looking for honest comments on what to improve in my painting, sorry for the crappy photos but I have only access to a phone cam. I know I must improve my lenses' painting technique as they look crappy.

Cheers

Your blues look good but your white needs work. Don't worry, it's one of the worst colors to try and paint. I use two formulas for white that will match either a "warm" color scheme or a "cold" one. Since you're using cold colors, I'll start with that one.

Paint the area Shadow Grey (or whatever it's called now)
Next paint over that with Space Wolves Grey
Now you can take your White and paint it as the top layer.
You may still have a little streaking in the white, if so then go over it again with white, this time painting against the direction of the streaks, like cross-hatching.

You can add a layer of 50/50 SW grey and white mix if you want a more subtle highlight.

This formula will give you a bright, vibrant white without any splotches, with a cool tone to it that will match your blues.

With warm colors (like Farsight or the classic tau tan scheme), you'll want to start with Vomit Brown, then Bleached Bone and then white as the top layer.

Thanks a lot for your tips @bossfearless! The white is warmer in reality but indeed painting white gives me a lot of trouble. I will try your method out!

@Ratius - thanks!
