Hi! I am working on finish up my Imperial Fist army and want to play a fairly siege themed list. Now no siege is complete without piles of bodies being used as cannon fodder which seems to be one of the very few things Space Marines actually lack. To fix this problem and delve deeper into the twisted satisfaction I get from having my cheap units be blown to be bits I was thinking of allying in Imperial Guard with my Space Marines. I am looking for almost pure trash infantry to throw into the grinder because I am a sick bastard.

I don't have the IG codex yet, but will be picking it up sooner rather than later, but until then what kind of models and units do you guys suggest? A bunch of conscripts? Some actual guardsmen? What about the HQ choice? Primaris psykers, priests and commissars worth using in this kind of set up?

I would also be open to using their artillery or tank options if you guys think they would fit the theme of the list, but remember its mainly a Imperial Fist force. The guard are there to do one thing -->

Absolutely the right book to use. As you already know take a regular platoon keep them as separate squads (I have no idea how many points you will have to use for this) then conscripts with a priest. For the HQ I'd say bring a Tank Commander in a demolisher with a buddy demolisher. If you can find the points bring a Wyvern it'll always do work.

If I remember correctly guard come out to 5pts a flashlight. Might not help a whole lot but it will give you a jist of how many models you'll get. I believe conscripts are like 3pts... I could be wrong

Yeah you are right on the cost. I know that much from reading the tactics section on 1d4chan. Its the other costs that I am not sure about, but right now I am just trying to get idea for the list down.

I could take 50 of them plus a Commissar for 175 points (so says 1d4chan) which is a ton of bodies on the board for a very low price. Perfect for absorbing overwatch and tar pitting superior forces (I think), but I wanted to make one thing clear. If the commissar refuses the challenge (9/10 times he probably would) the conscripts dont get to use his leadership correct? Can the commissar still execute soldiers to keep moral up if he refused a challenge? If this is not the case then I surely would need at least two characters so that the squad could use their superior leadership to keep them in the fight. I can take multiple character per squad I believe so that means 1 priest 1 commissar to keep the soldiers in it.

So thats for maximum body spam, but do you guys think it would be worth it to down size the squad size and upgrade to actually trained soldiers for 2 more points each?

Also having my HQ be a companny command squad with the artillery dude + my Chapter master orbital strike sounds pretty fun (until it scatters and hits my IG in which case it gets REALLY FUN )

First off you have to have a regular platoon of guardsmen to get access to conscripts so for one troop slot you can have:
PCS 30
IS 50
IS
IS
IS
IS

50xConscripts 150

So for 380pts you get 105 models to split into 7 units maximum. The conscripts need Priests, 2 are good for 30+ models.

A CCS is a good choice for the reasons you mentioned. If you're taking the MoO you should slap a Las Cannon into that squad as well. So that when he gives his squad the ignores cover order both weapons will benefit.

The IG stuff tends to be rather overpriced, but if you want an opening salvo, take the Manticore.

I like it that no one (until now) has mentioned the DKoK
Take their 'siege regiment' list as an allied detachment
Fill it out with the usual IG siege stuff (infantry platoons, Medusae ect)
Make sure to spam the 'Dig In' Order, GtG when being shot at, and then spam 'Get back in the fight!' order for 5+ cover save (in the open) guardsmen! (that can shoot normally)
Take some Aegis Defense lines for 2+ Cover save Guardsmen that can shoot normally! (perfect if you max out your infantry platoons with siege type weaponry (mortars ect))

430 pts nets you a bare bones Infantry platoon of
•5 man command squad
•5× 10 man guardsman squads that can be run a brink of 50
•50 man brick of conscripts

That's just a single troop choice.

Well for my army I was thinking of sticking with Space Marine vehicles for artillery and just having the guard as infantry screens.

The Kriegers came to mind, but their models cost way too much for me and for now I like the idea of just sticking to standard, cheaper guard.
