I know that this is supposed to be the intro style faction for people with historical armies/interest in historical armies and don't really want to jump right into one of the mantic provided forces but has anyone from mantic ever stated what their idea for what a kingdom of men force would look like if it were official? Like would it be of renaissance level technology, medieval, etc.

Based on the weaponry available, black powder and cannons with a smattering if knights would indicate late middle ages to early renaissance around 15th century.

It's not intended to be as advanced as GW's Empire army, so that sounds about right.

Starbuck: "Why can't we use the starboard launch bays?"

They don't make models for humans. So, in my opinion, if you want to use army men from wwII with their rules as if you'd been sucked into Mantic through some wormhole and over time lost the ability to maintain some of your weapons and body armor, I'd be down for it.

Be kinda like that faction from The Gamers: Hand of Fate

It can be anything, really - from Ancients up to early blackpowder usage.

I use GW Empire stuff, since a local store was having a AoS sale and I want to use Mantic minis for their other factions.

What infinite_array said. Sure, you can field cannons. But you can also field chariots, which were phased out when cavalry proper became a thing. So you could field a spartan army, romans, celts, vikings, or anything right up to the renaissance. Just use whatever you like the look or theme of.

The pics of Kingdoms of Men in the book show a mixture of (Warlord Games) Celts, (Gripping Beast) Dark Age warriors, and (Fireforge Games) Teutonic knights.

A friend of mine is working on a SCAdian army.... (Gods know what he will use for the Tuchux....)

The Auld Grump - East Realm, Malagentea.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

The fluff indicates that it's not one entity, but rather a compilation of the troops available to all the various kingdoms
So, separate places, different traditions ... Anything from Romans to Late Medieval will do the trick. Even rag-tag kind of troops from the Dark Ages can be used as militia / shield-wall

Some people are working on Ming dynasty Chinese and early Shogunate Japanese armies as well. It's also pretty trivial to make an Indian army as well.

My idea, which I'm incredibly unlikely to ever have the time to do, is a confederation of small city states, banded together in mutual trade and defence against the other larger, voracious kingdoms of men in the area. Because each city is quite small comparatively, they specialise in, and only field two or three types of unit. I'd have:

A seaside city with a Greek theme that provides javelins (spears) and phalangites (pikes)

A medieval themed city that hosts a surviving Primovantor-founded school of combat and chivalry that provides footmen and knights.

A smallish mining city, that has been a trading partner and way station for free dwarves for centuries, that provides cannon, artillery and arquebusiers,

A Mongol or Hun themed city in the North founded by steppes nomads, who were fleeing winter when they were finally halted and forced to hunker down to survive the cold, and winter lasted so long their settlement became permanent - but still retaining some of their nomad ways, as they provide bowmen and mounted scouts.

Shield wall and Berserkers from a Norse themed Island settlement that, with the Greek city, controls their small bay. In naval terms they work together as well, massive galleys supported by smaller and faster longships.

A middle Chinese themed city in the east that provides pole arms and crossbowmen.

A theme I haven't though of yet that provides sergeants, chariots and ballista. Need to find a good historical society that did all three, and exists as a model range, perhaps Persians?

I'd source them from all manner of historical makers, differences in scale and quality won't matter too much as it'll be single manufacturer per scenic base, apart from militia who'd be a funky mix and match of cheap peasant soldiers. There'd be general minis to match, and then the units would also carry a standard - top half the confederation flag, bottom half the flag of their own particular city.

This is my grand idea anyway!
